• Renter beware

  Overall this place is nicely done. Some things to be aware of:

  1. This is a basement apartment. There is a steep driveway that you must go down and then around to get to the apartment. It can be dark in the back and you are not allowed to use the driveway. There is no mention of the steepness or no picture of this provided so if you have any health issues or disabilities , good luck.

  2. The “management” company apparently has no authority for repairs. The owner lives abroad. The toilet requires power to move waste to the main line. This system is faulty (it went out during my stay) and the guest contact is the cleaner. She has no authority to contact anyone and must wait for the owner to respond. Same goes for the management company. On a Sunday at 9 pm, I was told sorry, the owner was not able to find a plumber. I had contacted the owner at 12 in the afternoon. They said to reset the breaker which I did and then went about my day. Came back at 6:30 and same issue. Contacted the guest contact who told me she cannot do anything and must wait. Then I contacted management company. Same response. It wasn’t until after 9:30 pm that I was told sorry, we can’t help.

  Their resolution was to offer one nights refund if I couldn’t stay. With no functioning toilet? Was this even an option? I think they should have been grateful that we caught this and didn’t flood the apartment and offer more than a one night refund (that’s the very least). I ended up driving back to Atlanta- 7 hours! This was my last night. There was no refund of partial fees, pet fees or taxes.

  3. The sofa is super uncomfortable with the cushions being completely worn out and therefore offers no support. There is no tv service for live tv in case you want to watch any sports

  4. The thermostat is finicky and takes a lot to set to cool, heat, temp etc

  5. The shower drains slowly

  6. The sink in the bathroom has no hot water

  7. The upstairs tenant can be heard downstairs - walking around, moving things, etc

  8. There is no central air so the living area has its own space heater. I have no idea if it has air conditioning.

  9. There is no mat if you come inside - you entire directly into bedroom so if it’s raining, etc, you will dirty the floor.

  As a previous landlord, not having authority to get a plumber for repairs and having to wait on owner is inexcusable. What is the point of a management company? I guess I could have let it flood the apartment instead of being a considerate guest.

  Owner's response: "Neha, we work hard to deliver a 5-star experience for all our guests and we're sorry that we could not deliver that for you.
  
  - The information about the steep walkway is in the listing, but this is a good opportunity to update it with stronger verbiage, we will take care of this.
  - When we were alerted about the toilet the local property managers spent several hours calling and emailing emergency plumbers. Unfortunately with it being a weekend, there were none available to come until the following day. When they arrived they found that the sewage pump had a complete mechanical failure due to being improperly installed. We had it replaced and installed correctly as quickly as possible and we have not had any other issues. We do apologize for this inconvenience and want you to know that the refund was for your inconvenience and was not contingent on your leaving early.
  - We also looked into the other issues you mentioned and everything has been resolved, we do apologize for the mishaps you had, and hope you had a good trip despite those things.
  We are confident that future guests will have excellent stays!"

  I wish I lived in this apartment full time! Great space, easy access to downtown Raleigh.

  This apartment is delightful, chock full of little touches that make you smile, and super attractive in a low key style that is totally welcoming. Great amenities like games. Spotless when we arrived. We lacked for nothing and had a fabulous stay. Only caution is a steep driveway in which you don't park, so if mobility is an issue that could be a problem. Otherwise I 100% recommend!
