I had the opportunity to spend a full week in this little cabin in Strawberry, Arizona, at an elevation of almost 6000', during the last several days of October and the first few days of November.
Probably built in the 1960's, the whole cabin has been beautifully renovated. The Kitchen, Living Room, and Dining Area feature a modern, open, floor plan. The kitchen is a cook's dream, with modern high-end appliances and ample cookware. The laundry features stacked front-load washer and dryer. The propane heat worked well to break the chill in the morning, but I chose to stoke the wood-burning stove for overnight heat. Air conditioning was provided by an outdoor compressor and a modern through-wall heat exchanger in the Living Room.
Flooring near the wood burning stove was stone, while the rest of the cabin was hardwood floors with throw rugs in selected locations.
My queen-sized bed was very comfortable, with appropriate linens for the season. I slept well. I'm not a decorator, but I think I would call the decorations French-Country Style. From the artwork to the throw rugs to the dinnerware, the decor was tasteful and elegant (French?), while remaining rustic with a touch of whimsy.
Large windows provided plenty of indoor light and great views of the small herds of passing elk. If you want to eat outside, the kitchen is literally 3 steps from the walk-out deck in back.
While I was here, I hiked a loop that included part of the Arizona Trail, where it meets the Pine Trail. We have Ponderosa Pine, in Rocky Mountain National Park, near my home, but the Ponderosa Pine in this area were the tallest I have seen. They even smell like butterscotch and vanilla, just like the Ponderosa Pine trees back home. This cabin was close enough to "downtown" Strawberry that I walked to the local hand pie shop a few times. There are plenty of activities near Strawberry, but if you are looking at this listing, you probably already know that.
Since there is only 1 bathroom, you should probably be on good terms with your companions. ;-)
If the opportunity arises, I will definitely come back to this little cabin, with friends or family.
