Wonderful place just a few minutes from downtown. Quiet area and perfect for friends looking to explore the great mountain biking trails the area has to offer. Excellent!

  • Freak Weather situation!

    3/5

We were supposed to check in on a Thursday, unfortunately, a crazy weather storm moved in and dropped 16-18"s of snow and the place was on the side of a mountain, no getting to it!! We finally checked in on a Saturday, it was plowed but the roads were very treacherous and narrow, hard to get around, iced in places. The home was clean, nice but had a spiral staircase that was treacherous as well, not easy to get up and down and we are not that old. It had a gate up top so you wouldn't fall down the stairs but it was straight up and down, in the original write up explaining the home it didn't spell it out clearly, in our opinion. The bathroom downstairs (ground floor) was very large, a plus, it was chilly down there and there was a small space heater, we really did not use it. I like sleeping in a cooler room, the futon was not comfortable at all, the other bed (murphy bed) was okay, if you are a flipper (from side to side) it makes noise like you are sleeping on a slab of lumber because you are (of course a matteress is on top of it). They did give us 2 nights credit due to the storm which we were grateful for, of course we would have rather stayed there but there was NO way to get there. I realize they don't get that much snow normally but mother nature is in control. There should be a note on their page stating that there could be snow and there is no getting there and that it is on a mountain side, if we had known that we would not have chosen it as a place to stay at. We went to help our sister out, health issues so we needed to be settled and it was difficult and added to our stress. I am not blaming the owners just that it was not conducive to what we went for. I would not stay there again. The place is up for sale too. There is a fireplace, gas starter, I would spell it out to NOT wait 30 seconds to start it, you can start it right away. No dishwasher, that wasn't exciting, had a grill but we couldn't get to it due to snow, wish the guy who plowed and shoveled would have shoveled a spot to get to grill! Glad I am home! The owner was easy to reach, on the positive side!

    Manager's Response:

Hi Shirl, the homeowners were surprised to read your review, as they are accustomed to providing 10-star experiences, and would like to clarify the following:
    - While we apologize for any inconvenience caused by your inability to reach the property on the original check-in date, factors such as inclement weather are unfortunately beyond our control.
    - The snowplows eventually cleared the area, allowing us to have the driveway and sidewalk plowed for your arrival. To address the inconvenience, we promptly refunded you for the two nights that you were unable to stay and covered the cost of plowing.
    - We want to ensure that all guests have a positive experience, and we encourage them to review the map on our listing and research the mountainous area before booking. This provides guests with an awareness of local weather and road conditions, ensuring that the property meets their needs. While snowstorms of this magnitude are rare for the area, we acknowledge that they can still occur.
    - Our listing prominently features the spiral staircase in our photos, allowing guests to make an informed decision before booking based on their preferences and requirements.
    - While we make every effort to accommodate the comfort of all guests, it's important to acknowledge that mattress taste is subjective, and we haven't received any complaints about the futon or Murphy bed in the past.
    - The fireplace instructions don't mention waiting 30 seconds before starting it and guests are welcome to go ahead and start it.
    - We don't offer a dishwasher due to the limited space in the small kitchen. Additionally, the listing doesn't advertise one.
    - To clear the deck for use of the grill, we would've needed to grant access to the plowing service, which we weren't comfortable with. Despite being in touch throughout your stay, you didn't mention your concern with accessing the grill. We encourage guests to reach out with any issues while they're in residence so we can promptly address them to ensure a pleasant visit.
We do all we can to provide an excellent guest experience and we look forward to hosting many happy travelers.
