  • Disappointing

    3/5

This was the first bad experience I’ve had through VRBO, which lead to LEAVING the property less than two hours after arriving!!

After arriving and unpacking the vehicle, I began to prepare dinner. After finding the pots that belong to the property in a kitchen cabinet, I saw that the pots were dirty. I went to clean the pots at the kitchen sink and when I turned on the faucet, the water smelled like rotten eggs. It was a nauseating smell so I had to use bottled water to finish cleaning the pots. I contacted the property “manager” and inquired to the smelly water. I was told “ It is well water so It can have a slight odor to it. There is a water pitcher in the fridge with a filter for you to use for drinking.” needless to say I was NOT drinking or showering in water that smelled so bad.

After that I turned to the stove which was dirty and stain covered. I then found grease and dust above the stove on the cabinets going all the way to the ceiling which was covered with grease or dust (black specks) in at least a two foot radius. I then found a mouse trap behind the kitchen trash can which was next to the back door.

Moving away from the kitchen I found damage to drywall, light switch covers and the doorframe to the main entrance. In the bedroom the night stand lamps were covered in cob-webs.

The overall exterior cleanliness was less than appealing also. Overgrown and seemingly not maintained.

The overall cleanliness of the property was disgusting.

  • We'll be back!

    5/5

We had an amazing weekend at the cottage and can't wait to return!

There isn't great cell service in the area, so I would recommend downloading the map/directions to your phone before getting on the road. The house is comfortable and well-equipped. The front yard is fenced for the dogs and water bowls and poop bags were provided. The river was a short walk down the road with plenty of firewood to gather along the way. Matches and lighter fluid were also provided. We used our phones for light, but you may want to bring flashlights or lanterns if you plan to have a fire along the river at night, which I would absolutely recommend - the stars and fireflies were breathtaking! Unfortunately, we didn't have a chance to take the kayaks (stored at the river) or toy shed for a spin.

Brandy, our house contact, and everyone we met in the area were very friendly and helpful. We floated the river between Routes 663 & 664 which took about 5.5 hours. We were able to make friends with a local who let us park our truck at their house for the float, but parking otherwise can be tricky - check carefully for signs and be careful not to block any gates! Along that stretch of the river was a rope swing, a beachy area to stop for a picnic and class 2 rapids (suitable for adventurous kids with lifejackets), as well as very friendly campers with good whiskey!

We will definitely be back, and for longer next time!
