Knowing nothing about Galax, except for there being gorgeous mountains and views, we booked this home for a Thanksgiving half-week. Our two families were able to share this cozy (but large) and charming home and thrive for our time in Galax. They offer so many special details while giving off a warm vibes and beautiful style. We entered the home, not realizing the cold on "Windy Ridge" would be so intense and frigid compared to the temps we're used to. The heat promptly kicked on and filled the home. The living areas and bedrooms are beyond spacious, allowing for different conversation/activity areas. There are 3 different couch/sectional setups for sitting and lounging, a beautiful dining room with ample seats, a cozy game of checkers area, a little in-kitchen dining table and spacious bedrooms. We had kids playing games on the floor, some watching tv in one living room, some playing checkers and some on the other set of couches, while never feeling cramped. The couches are also really comfy and quality so that was a bonus. We used the kitchen to it's full capacity. They offer so many utensils, dishes and odds and ends that supplemented the things we brought. The fridge and stove are immaculate and work perfectly. The hot water in the double sinks and showers was great. Unfortunately we didn't get to use the spacious back porch and dining set-up due to temps and wind, but we very much enjoyed that back of the house view of rolling hills, pastures with sweet animals and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets on distant mountain ridges. The decor of the house was styled ever-so-beautifully and appropriate to the house with so many small details coming through. The home sits on a very quite side lane that quickly gives access to the quaint part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Neighbors are off in the distance which is a nice change of pace for a true getaway feel. The service is definitely lacking in the whole area, no matter where we traveled to, however, the WiFi was nice to hook up to in the house. The front living room provided better service and only a few of us would have liked a little WiFi extender for other areas of the house. The owners were responsive in prior days for our questions. This house left us with very special memories and we have only great things to say about our stay on Windy Ridge. It's very special and has amazing vibes. We would definitely book again- I can't imagine another home that would provide all these well-thought details for a vacation.
House was located 15 minutes from the interstate, but you felt like you were in the middle of nowhere. Upon arrival the house was dark (middle of nowhere!!) Once inside, turned the lights on and the house was quaint. This was just a weekend getaway to do nothing, so it was great. In the light of day everything was clean and tidy. The owner thoughtfully had many of the necessities to enjoy our stay. Thank you for your hospitality we enjoyed our stay.a
The place is roomy, great spaces! Very well equiped kitchen including a coffee pot and a Keurig. This is a very old house so be prepared for the old house smell. My son's allergies were terrible while in the house. My son is 6'2", the showers were not tall enough for him. It is in need of a good cleaning. The wasps in the house were concerning since we had a 6 month old baby with us. When we turned on the heat, it quickly warmed up nicely. The person who cares for the house is very responsive. There was an elecrical issue out at the pole and we lost power, we contacted him and he had someone out to fix it within hours, on a Sunday! The internet is spotty, but I had no problem watching Amazon Prime on the den TV near the router, the 2 times I turned on the TV.
We absolutely loved this house. All of us. It’s close to all the things we like to do. So much room to spread out. The house and the property were fabulous. We’ll def be back.
