I cannot stress enough how wonderful the location of this property is! It's right in the heart of the Carmel Art and Design District and walking distance to everything we could have wanted. Parking is close and easy. That being said, there were some glitches.
The manager of the property, Jeff, called us the day we were supposed to check in to tell us that a toilet was being replaced in the property, and it wouldn't be ready until after five or so. That was fine as our flight was delayed by a day, but when we got there the trash container in the kitchen contained some garbage - I assume from the repair - and of all things a bathroom plunger and it smelled to high heaven! Not only that, one of the bowls from the kitchen was sitting on the patio table filled with rainwater and several cigarette butts and there was a Zippo lighter next to it. Not good as I was hosting a pair of very curious young grandchildren, and this is supposed to be a non-smoking rental. To his credit, Jeff replaced the trash container and plunger within a very few hours.
Whoever cleans the property is not terribly thorough. I'm not sure which toilet was replaced, but one was sparkling clean and the other two didn't look as though they'd been touched with cleaner or disinfectant for days or possibly weeks. The sink in the secondary bathroom upstairs actually had been spit in and not cleaned up. Maybe the plumber? Who knows? Anyway, I spent my first hour cleaning things I never should have had to.
When I spoke with Jeff about the smell, he told me that the washing machine on the second floor always has a bit of a sewer smell, and it is just the way it is. Lovely. A dried-out P-trap? Running water down the trap helped, but the smell would come back a day or so later. It's probably mold, and it needs to be addressed. The folding doors closing off the washer/dryer were broken, as well.
Besides that, the property kitchen was clean and well equipped. There was a bowl of snacks on the table and plenty of coffee, tea, etc. The furniture in the living room was comfortable and well maintained, although the TV in the living room is not a Smart TV, does not have cable, and can't be turned on using the remote control. Really. Good luck finding the switch. The television in the master bedroom (the one with the two queen beds) has a ROKU, so memorize your passwords.
The beds and linens were in great shape and very comfy and over all the unit is well decorated and quite pretty.
Hi Tracy, we’re glad to hear that you thought the cabin was wonderful and you enjoyed the location, comfortable beds, and decor. We want our guests to rest easy when they stay with us, and we apologize you experienced some issues during your trip. We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following:
- We apologize that the bowl left outside was not disposed of by the cleaners that was just missed. We usually do a final walk-through but because of the quick response by the plumber, we think that was missed. We do take cleanliness very seriously and are sorry things fell short. We have ensured that there are no lingering odors.
- The toilet and garbage disposal that was broken have been replaced. We are sorry that the technician who changed out the toilet used the trash can in the kitchen. We did get that taken care of for you.
We do all we can to make the best possible stay, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests.
