The house was filthy. It was absolutely NOT cleaned prior to our arrival. I wasn not sure how VRBO could post this house as a place to stay-the first issue was the complete lack of cleanliness. We are not super picky, but this place was disgusting. Isn't there someone who should be checking for this? The doors and handles were disgusting. The furniture had gross "stuff" on them, the refridgerator was not clean inside, the cabinets had some mold in them. The supplies: towels, silverware, etc. all of this was either a mess or non-existent. Lights were not working, the t.v. remote did not work and it was incredibly sticky, etc.
The WORST PART, however, was the fact that there was someone else living on the property, in the garage, attached to the house. So they could just come in the house while we were staying in it, anytime. We didn't discover this until the second day when we came back to the house and heard a t.v. or something going on in there. We called the owner to ask what was going on and he said he would call the tenant to ask them to turn their t.v./music down. What??! There was someone else living on the property whick was NOT disclosed in the information about the property!! I don't think he understood that it was an issue, much less WHY it was an issue. I emailed both Evolve and VRBO, and said that we did not feel safe there with someone else living in the garage with access to the house, not to mention the conditions of the house.
However, EVOLVE responded reasonably quickly and (almost) fully refunded our cost and we vacated. We probably should have contacted VRBO directly to recoup the rest of the fee, but honestly, we just wanted to be done with it. We will definnitly nor be renting from VRBO, again.
Owner's response: "Marta, the right vacation home is everything, and we're disappointed if this wasn't the one for you. We have been renting our home for over 7 years and this is the most disappointing review we have ever received.
- We ask all our potential guests to look at the listing closely to be sure this is the home they want to rent. We have this information in the listing so that our guests know that there may be someone else at the property; NOTE: There is a long-term tenant on-site in a completely separate unit (mother-in-law suite) that shares the washer/dryer and may be present during your stay. We're sorry that you did not see this when you booked our home.
- Regarding the towels, we provide 2 towels in each room and extra towels and comforters are available in the closet, we do not lock this closet so our guests can get what they need.
- We take cleanliness very seriously and our cleaning crew does a great job, if you had issues with the cleanliness we wish you had brought this to our attention immediately so that we had the chance to rectify the issues.
- We have someone available for our guests but we did not hear from you until you had stayed 2 days into your stay and your main complaint was not cleanliness it was having people at the property during your stay. The refrigerator was empty we don't know what you were talking about it being dirty. We also found no mold in the cabinets.
- The TV worked for the guests before you stayed with us and the remote is brand new.
- We take cleanliness very seriously and wash the dishes and cookware with every guest turnover. We would have been happy to rewash anything that did not meet your standards had we been made aware of it. Some of the pots and pans have a coating of oil to stop the rust.
- The gas grill and gas griddle we provide are the same. When they are dry they appear rusty and when they are hot they don't. We brush the grill with a grill brush to make sure no leftover food or grease remains. We could have shown you how to operate the outdoor cooking equipment had we known you had issues.
We are confident that future guests will have excellent stays! We will continue to deliver those 5-star experiences we know we can deliver."
