  I’ll start with the positives- the views are great from the house & the location is nice and quiet. The property manager got back to me quickly when the code they gave us didn’t work for the garage door. The house is stocked nicely with fresh towels, dishes, toiletries. Etc. But after that this house needs to be renovated. There’s a slant in the floor on the kitchen and the deck doesn’t feel secure. The decor is dated and the king bed upstairs is hard as a rock. I know everyone has different preferences for firmness in mattresses but this was ridiculous. I know most mountain homes don’t have AC and it wasn’t listed on the listing but this house gets up to like 87 in the summer because of how it’s facing. So when you check in at 4pm it’s a sauna. One of the property managers did let me know that I should leave all the windows open at night and it drops to the 50’s. So we were able to cool it off but it would be nice to know this ahead of time. It felt like the propane stove was on but after we checked the thermostat several times and all of the switches we could find we guessed it was the pilot light giving off that much heat. The picture of the bedroom with all of the books is accurate but the books are all gynecology & midwifery books-not like I’m going to “dive into” a book like that on vacation or any time. The garage code is the only way into the house and you walk right into a car parked there “for storage”. The garage door sounds like it’s going to fall apart at any time & the code box cover falls off when you lift it up. My husband has an oversized pick up truck and we could barely fit in the driveway. Those pics are definitely not accurate. The basement isn’t finished and had a weird smell. I have never written a review like this for a VRBO since using several in the past 5 years but this house is in need of some loving care! When you’re paying to stay at a vacation getaway for the price we’re paying you expect something nicer than your grandmothers hand me downs. Less is more regarding decor & clutter.

  From the owner: "Thanks for your review. We do appreciate what our guests have to say and what we can improve. Having said that, it is important to remember that this rental is a cabin atmosphere mountain get-away meant to get away from it all and unplug. There is so much outside to explore, hike, raft, and sightsee that it is meant for people to only be indoors during the summer. You truly miss out if you are staying inside, the mountains and wildlife are so spectacular during those couple months of we don’t have snow. For this reason, many homes chose to be eco-friendly and do not have air conditioning, and are not listed among the amenities in the profile. While the house is cooling down with the windows open, many guests choose to sit out on the deck and enjoy the fantastic views and mountain air. I am sorry you didn’t make it further into the library, It is very eclectic with something for everyone. The library which does include medical books along with fiction, biographies, metaphysical, children’s, and cartoon books. We have had some physicians who have stayed there and enjoyed the reading material, as well as multiple guests interested in a variety of subjects. There should be something there for every one of one takes some time. There are multiple cozy corners both inside and out to grab something and enjoy. The house is a persistent project, again with snow 9-10 months of the year, and labor shortages in the summer, we appreciate things that guests find for us to add to our list. The garage door was scheduled to be fixed and was fixed on Friday. There is a part that is estimated to be there in September for the propane stove. Due to labor shortages, this did take a couple of weeks to get the parts. This is out of our hands. We hope when our guests come in they are cozy and comfortable, and that is our aim, not a contemporary fashion statement like you would find in the city. We aim for cozy. We only book 6 to 8 people at a time but it does sleep 12 so that people have the option of moving to different beds with different comfort levels. Some of our guests have been so grateful for a therapeutic mattress, soft pillow-like ones as well throughout the house. This may have not been a good fit for you, but we hope you have many wonderful adventures in your future."

  I had special inquiry regarding snowmobile parking. No response. She was aware we were coming to ride because she said enjoy the snow. We had to try and turn around a 27’ trailer on a single tract road. Also the house is not as advertised. It’s straight out of the 70’s.
