Larrys Cabin on the Lake
I’ve been visiting Lake Ferndale since the late 1980’s. After nearly 40 years of not being “on the lake” I was fortunate enough to discover Larry. Larry and his family are wonderful people and wonderful hosts! The cabin is fully appointed and provides any amenity that a person might require. All Larry asks is that any renter merely treat it as their own. Larry is always prompt to answer any questions and provide guidance as requested. The area itself is truly “Almost Heaven.” The lake provides excellent fishing from either a small boat (electric motors only) or from the shore. I can honestly attest that I have literally landed hundreds of bass, crappie, and catfish from this lake. The white, sandy beach is well maintained as is the picnic area. As a keyed entry lake, there are no concerns about overcrowding or any rowdy behavior. It’s quiet and serene and a wonderful place to just hang out with your partner or family. Kayaking on the lake typically provides ample opportunity to observe bald eagles circling overhead. While the lake and cabin are very secluded, it’s only about a 10-minute drive to Springfield where there’s convenience stores and plenty of bait. A short 20-minute drive to Fort Ashby will allow access to grocery stores and restaurants. A 30-minute drive gets you to Cumberland, Maryland where there is literally everything. The South Branch of the Potomac River is 10 minutes away and provides excellent kayaking as well as world class fishing.
Larrys cabin is the perfect place for an outdoorsman or outdoorswoman and more than that it is literally the perfect place to just do nothing! It is very quiet and at night, very dark which lends itself to phenomenal sleep. The wifi is always on to allow TV watching or merely maintain some contact with the outside world. It truly gets no easier than renting with Larry. Be respectful and courteous and you will find yourself with a contact that will allow you to simply put away the outside world and immerse yourself in Mother Nature. You will be recharged and invigorated after spending some time at the cabin! Do yourself a favor and take a break from the hectic world we live in and grant yourself a few days at Larrys cabin. You will not be disappointed!!

We spent the first 2 hours cleaning after finding roaches in the place and dirt on the fridge. I messaged the owner and only heard back after our stay was done. Evolve has been slow to respond and as of yet, have not received any credit.

We had a nice long weekend at the cabin. Living space is limited but very efficient, we had plenty of space, especially with the beautiful deck and screened in porch. We traveled 4 kids and 4 adults. The cabin was clean and the amenities were wonderful. The hot tub was a great way to unwind and watch the stars. It's off the beaten path, but a great family getaway to play at the lake (we paddleboarded, kayaked, swam and fished). We played games and enjoyed the fire in the evenings. Owner was very quick to respond and answer any questions. Cabin is just as the description states. Great vacation! Can't wait to go back.

The picture makes it look like a two story building but you only have access to the top floor so pay attention to how little square footage there is. This places is essentially just a single-wide trailer that has been remodeled to look like a "cabin." The water has A LOT of sulfur which will quickly fill the entire house as soon as you turn the sink on. It also makes showers pretty tough. It says that it sleeps 10 but that is counting two baby beds on one of the lofts. In reality this house could only work for a couple with multiple kids. More than 2 adults and your sleeping situation would be too tight.

Eric, thanks for taking the time to review your stay! While we do our best to include all of this in the description, we - and our future guests - appreciate your helpful tips! We've also passed your feedback along to the homeowner, so any necessary changes can be made. Thanks again! Best, The Evolve Team
We had a great time. Was a little hard getting up the hill up but everything else was great. Went fishing with the kids they each caught a fish for the first time, myself included. Walked around the lake and my son caught a little baby turtle. Was a nice quite vacation under the star with the fire pit and marshmallows.
