• What’s that smell? Was this place cleaned?

  We stayed three nights. Door County has a lot to offer and did not disappoint. This property did. The hard part about checking into a rental property that is not ready for guests in a popular area is that you may have no other options for lodging. Having arrived in the evening, and not wanting to give up any of our short time, we bit the bullet and made the best of it, which required a good sense of humor on my wife’s part. No, we did not give management an opportunity to fix what was wrong - we were only in town for three days, and they would have needed all of that time and more. The mold/mildew smell in the carpeting required every window that could be opened to be opened, despite cool temps (some windows are sealed up with caulk or paper towels or both). We found instructions to turn on the well and water heater when we arrived that were not mentioned elsewhere. There is a note about sulphur smell from the water - it did not characterize the smell as obscene, which it is. Toilets were not cleaned prior to our arrival. Someone else’s belongings were left in the shower. The second-floor screened-in porch is incredibly dirty in every way. Stained sheets... The fundamentals need to be addressed before each guest stays and they were NOT. The view is very nice and there are no close neighbors - that is all that we could find to be truly happy about at this property.

  - The house was cleaned prior to your arrival, but we’re sorry that parts of it did not meet your expectations. The owner will be addressing this with the cleaning team to make sure the bathrooms, linens, and screened-in porch are thoroughly cleaned before every stay.
  - The owner did not notice any mold or mildew smell during a recent visit but will run the dehumidifier and add a UV light to help prevent any odors in the future.
  - There are no caulked windows at the house, but the owner will double-check all windows to ensure they open and close properly so guests can get fresh air when needed.

• Spiders home not a human home

  Owner's response: "Gene, It is our mission to provide a 5-star experience for all our guests.
  - Because of our location, we will have the occasional spider and lake flies, but they typically stay outside. So that they do not become a nuisance we have a team of professionals spray the outside of the home on a regular schedule. We have checked and do not have any spiders in the home.
  - We also have a strict non-smoking policy and found that the rule was not adhered to, we do not appreciate this.
  We do all we can to make the best possible stay, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests. We will continue to strive for the 5-star experiences we know we can deliver."
