  • Inaccurate home description and confusing discussions with owner had us leave early

    2/5

This home is a shared home with the owner who is downstairs. This is not documented anywhere in the description of the property. When you enter the home you see right away a curtained off downstairs. We would not have rented this home if we knew this. We have 2 young daughters and for us it is a safety issue. When we talked with the owner by phone after seeing the layout she told us nobody would be living downstairs during our visit as she was out of town. Because of this we decided to stay. But then on day 1 the owner came home and stayed downstairs, the next morning we decided to pack up and leave early. I spent the entire night awake making sure nobody came up those stairs. The home is advertised as having AC in the description which it does not. The home gets very hot with the large windows facing the afternoon sun and there is no way to securely open the house up when you are away. The home stayed very warm late in to the evening. This is also a very religious home. This is not wrong by itself but should be mentioned in the description. There are over 100 Mormon books, pamphlets, pictures and paintings throughout the home. We have stayed in homes with religious icons and have had no problems with this but the sheer volume of these items was off putting. The home itself is dated but is mostly in good order. The screen door to go outside isn't working correctly, the refrigerator is loud, the stools in the kitchen are not stable (there is a warning note but for renter safety they really should be replaced), and the trash compactor is difficult to open and close for putting trash into.I do believe the owner's heart is in the right place and she was very kind to us during our conversations, she left out some toys for our girls to play with, and the view from the home is amazing. Without this we would have given 1 star.

    Manager's Response:

Hi Reuben, we want to make vacation rental easy for everyone, and we're sorry that you experienced some issues during your stay. We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following:
    - We've updated the listing description to reflect that there is a second unit on the premises with a separate entrance and locks on each side as well as 4 noise-canceling curtains. While infrequent, the owner may be present during a guest's stay.
    - A/C is not an advertised amenity on the listing, but we're sorry if this was missed when you booked.
    - The listing photos accurately reflect the art at the property, including pieces with religious icons, but all other religious texts, as well as other books on history, art and travel, are kept in drawers. Guests are welcome to look through them or keep them stored away.
    - The home is decorated in a traditional-eclectic aesthetic as reflected by the photos, but with no outdated amenities. The driveway was also repaved in July 2021 as we continuously make upgrades when needed.
    - While we found no issue with the screen door before your arrival, we did note damage upon checkout and will look into the necessary repairs.
    - We will have a technician look into any noise with the refrigerator, though it was recently serviced.
    - The note about the stools is mainly for the consideration of children's safety as they're bar stools and higher off the ground.
    - The trash compactor was off its track but has since been repaired.
Thank you for letting us know about your stay.

  • Stunning & spectacular views with warm & gracious hospitality.

    5/5

This beautiful Anacortes beach home had the most stunning vistas we have ever enjoyed. Looking out over the Olympic mountains, local islands and bays was relaxing & magical. Our host was so thoughtful with fresh flowers in the rooms, and so generous with everything we needed to make our visit so wonderful, including binoculars, information, and even a great jigsaw puzzle! The television entertainment was great too. The kitchen had all we needed to cook and eat at home with the best views imaginable. This was truly a fantastic and memorable stay. The location was fabulous as well, with a great park nearby with hiking and beach views, Deception Pass State Park, Anacortes parks and shopping, and Mt. Erie. We highly recommend this magical Pacific Nothwest getaway; we Floridians were so glad we chose this home. We only missed the opportunity to have a glass of wine on the spectacular deck, as no alcohol consumption is allowed on the premises.
