    I booked this property months in advance and was never told until the day of arrival that the property has a 2 mile, narrow single lane, dirt road, obstructed by trees, feet off of a lake, up a steep cliff that you need a 4wheel drive vehicle for and you should only come and go during daylight.

    None of this is on the VRBO listing!

    I called and emailed several times in the days before arrival to get the entry instructions with no response from the owner. After calling Evolve on the arrival day, another management company in the instructions, I was able to get the entry code via text from the property caretaker but no other details. He texted me the owner was in India and very hard to reach. I finally got the email from the owner while I was on the 6 hour drive there and arriving at 8:30pm. DRIVING IN WAS TERRIFYING !

    We booked the weekend for my son's college graduation nearby. We walked out immediately and didn't stay at all because of how dangerous the road was and the graduation had events at night.

    Now I'm getting a run around from Evovle, VRBO and the owner for a refund. We had to scramble to find hotel rooms in 3 different hotels at ridiculous prices because it was Memorial Day weekend and graduation. NOT FAIR.

    Evolve is horrible and enabling the owners to scam potetional renters with hidden details.

    - We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced with the check-in process. We did send the access code and additional information via email two days before your arrival. I understand you reached out via text, but unfortunately, I was abroad at the time and had already provided all the necessary details in the initial email.
    - Regarding the road leading to the house, it is a single-lane, unpaved road that is less than a mile long, with a section of about 600 feet running along the lake, as clearly depicted in the aerial photos on our listing. We make every effort to ensure that guests are aware of this before their arrival so they can plan accordingly.

  • Orwell Cabin


    I stayed at this property for a girls weekend with family. While the property was tidy when we arrived, it was certainly not clean. I was disappointed by the amount of dirt, dust and debris in a home with a very hefty cleaning fee.

    The check-in procedures were easy enough and the host was responsive to my questions. There weren't any extra blankets and it was chilly in early spring. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans to be able to cook but was missing a dishrack.

    Overall the property and the setting was beautiful and I know that there is no perfect rental, but I felt like the attention to detail in the home was lacking.

    - We want our guests to arrive at a vacation home that is 100% ready for their stay, so we take the cleanliness of our property seriously. We’ve talked with our cleaning crew to ensure this issue does not recur for future travelers.
    - We wish you had reached out to us about this issue during your stay. We would've been more than happy to send our cleaning crew to resolve your concerns and make your stay more comfortable.
    - We do have heat pumps and portable heaters in all the rooms that can be adjusted by the guests. I share these details in the email I send to welcome guests during the cold season.
    - We do provide enough blankets for our guests on the property, however, had you shared that it was because you were chilly, we would have shared how to increase the heat.
    - While we regret our home was not up to your expectations, we’re happy to share that our most recent guests reported no issues.
    - We truly go above and beyond for our guests and are confident that future guests will have a wonderful stay!

  • Beautiful and quiet view but the house could improve


    Let me start by saying the location on the lake and having private dock access with kayaks were wonderful. That being said, the house itself was not the most clean. Upon arrival the owner was at the property still trying to clean up (45 mins past our check in time) and left his toothbrush at the kitchen sink. In addition, the water pressure was extremely low so only one person could shower at a time (there was 7 of us in total), and the sinks would often leak during our stay. We were told we couldn’t lean on the living room couch because it would break and the curtain rods on the main floor overlooking the lake would often fall if you tried to open them. The house looks great inside but you can tell the everything was made cheaply. This shouldn’t deter you from booking as long as you know what you’re getting into! We wish we knew more about the water pressure situation and overall cleanliness (my mom cleaned the whole house once we got there) which isn’t acceptable in my books but regardless our family had a blast.

    - We use a cleaning service to have the home professionally cleaned before each guest's arrival. We wish you had reached out to the Guest Contact during your stay if there were any issues you needed to be addressed. We would have done everything we could to resolve them immediately so that you could enjoy the home.
    - I was at the home when you arrived to check in because property maintenance was completed that morning and took longer than expected and I was there to ensure that the home was clean after the maintenance team had left. I would have called you ahead of time to alert you but I was having cell phone issues. Since I was there when you arrived, I'm happy I could walk you through the home and show you the entire property.
    - Given the remote location of this property, water is supplied by a well and there can be intermittent pressure issues that we can't always control. I apologize for the inconvenience. We are exploring the possibility of augmenting the water pressure, but often water pressure is just not great in rural areas.
    - We recently checked and there are no water leaks in any of the sinks. If you were encountering a leak in every sink, you may not have been closing it properly, since we have not heard this particular complaint from any other guests. However, we wish you would have reached out during your stay so we could have quickly resolved your concerns.
    - I kindly asked you all not to sit on the sofa backs and to please be gentle with the furniture since I recently had to replace two sections of the sofa due to previous guests. We have also not received any feedback before about the curtains not working properly so we will take a closer look. I'm wondering how exactly the curtains may have fallen off during your stay.
    - While we do regret our home was not up to your expectations, we are happy to share that no issues were reported by the guests who stayed the following weekend. We are always looking for ways to improve the guest experience and your feedback is an important part of that process. We hope to host you again in the future!
