  We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. By far, one of the nicest features of this house is the deck. Beautiful views of Meachim Creek. Perfect for sipping coffee and enjoying some wine!! The layout of the house is easy and spacious. We would definitely come back. Communication with the owner was quick and easy.

  We had a wonderful stay here for our 17th annual girls’ weekend! The house was clean, the beds were comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, and the views were stunning! We spent a day in downtown Kilmarnock: lunch at Donna’s on Main, pedicures at LE Nails, and shopping on Main Street. For ultimate relaxation, we enjoyed a Group Sound Bowl Healing Session at Motion Studios. Back in Topping, we had fantastic dinner and drinks at Merrior’s overlooking the water. (Thank you Bill for the perfect recommendation!) This was an ideal setting for our annual tradition and we’d happily stay here again for future gatherings!

  The property is wonderful. Beautiful deck & pier overlooking a relaxing cove. We loved the outdoor aspects of this property which is why we rented it.

  The cottage on the river was clean, well-stocked, and in a great location. We enjoyed fishing, crabbing, shopping in Kilmarnock, and using the boathouse for my father’s boat, who lives just a short drive away in Urbanna, Virginia. However, the host’s constant oversight made it hard to relax. Our pet had strict limitations, the AC was remotely controlled by the owner and left the house uncomfortably warm most days. There were also exterior cameras monitored by the host and in-person drive-by’s from his local friends that felt intrusive. Thankfully, the weather was mild—if it had been hotter, we would have left early due to the smoldering heat inside.Beautiful spot, but privacy and comfort were compromised by the owner’s constant monitoring.

  From the owner: "Thank you for your stay and for noting that you enjoyed our place and left it very clean. We also appreciate you mailing back the ceiling fan/light remote that was inadvertently packed. I’d like to address your concerns:
  - We ask that pets respect our home, as we’ve unfortunately had issues in the past with urine and pets on beds, sheets, and sofas.
  - Over $1,600 was recently invested in HVAC repairs within 30 days, including $1,000 on the sunporch unit the day you arrived. The A/C controls are automated and set for guests pre- and post-arrival. We request temperatures not much below 75° (which you agreed to) because settings such as 69° can risk blowing the capacitor and leave you without A/C. I’m sorry that 75° felt “smoldering” during your stay.
  - Cameras are located only at entry points for security purposes. They are not monitored unless there’s a potential violation, and this is disclosed in our listing.
  Thank you again for your feedback and for taking good care of the property during your stay."

• Just what we needed

  Perfect way to end the school year! We were there to go to Busch Gardens one day, but we left the park early just so we could spend more time at the house. Quiet, secluded feeling. We enjoyed fishing, kayaking, sitting on the dock and just enjoying the peaceful water.
