  • The Little Lodge

    5/5

We had a wonderful short stay at The Little Lodge! I love the mountains and we were definitely on a mountain. The trees were all changing and the scenery was beautiful! The small town of New Market was very easily accessible from the lodge. We did some hiking, went to the Civil War Museum and Battlefield, did some local shopping, & roasted s’mores back at the lodge on the fire pit. I loved that we could bring our two dogs. They had fun getting used to the doggie door and exploring the property. Wish we could have stayed a bit longer. Maybe next time.

  • Perfect

    5/5

This property was perfect for our small group of three friends who came to hike Shenandoah. The house was probably the cleanest rental we’ve ever stayed in, with anything you could need provided. Don’t ignore the mention of the 4WD needed to access the property, that is accurate and is included in the listing description. The screened-in porch is wonderful and the gas fireplace was easy to use. Overall a great place.

  • Nice cabin

    5/5

We enjoyed our stay at the Little Lodge. Once you turn off the main road you will be on a dirt road. The neighbors would appreciate it if you do not drive fast down the road and create a lot of dust. The only place you really need to hit the gas is the last small leg up to the Little Lodge.I would encourage you to arrive during the daytime hours. The first time up to the lodge at night might be a little too interesting. We would definitely stay again if we are in the area.

From the owner: "Thank you, Charles, for your review! Well said! Excellent points on going slow in the neighborhood to keep the dust down and trying to arrive during daylight. The road up to the cabin is daunting and even more so at night! Thank you again and hope you visit us again soon!"

  • Cozy, convenient lodge

    4/5

The neighborhood the lodge is located in, is much bigger than it appears to be; plus the gravel road throughout (4x4 is a must). Road is narrow, watch out for oncoming cars, especially around blind spots. The lodge has a cozy deck at the front for a morning coffee and a relaxing screened in porch at the rear side. Catch a deer family around 5:30pm everyday, unless your dogs scare them away. The lodge also has a dog door from the inside of the house to a fenced in area (quite convenient). The key to the dog door, flip switch up to let the dog out, down to keep them out there/once they are in, otherwise the door is quite noisy. Wish there was a door to the screenhouse from the fenced in area as well. The kitchen is small and has its limitations, but otherwise convenient. There is a bathroom for each bedroom and they have a washer and dryer. The furniture in the living room is quite comfortable. The fireplace, we could not get to work when it got down to 46 at night one night. Luckily, we turned the heat on that night. Last thing we noticed, the bedding could be updated; we brought our own bedding, since our dogs sleep with us. We went out everyday to explore the Shenandoah Valley area. We would recommend it to others, and would come back again.

Response from owner: "Thank you for the feedback Katrina! Not sure why the fireplace did not work for you. You should only have to flip the switch. If the pilot light was turned off by accident, it can be tricky to light! Sorry you were not able to enjoy it. The kitchen is small and quaint. Small cabin=Small kitchen. I understand you mentioned the sheet set seemed worn and we had it removed. All other bedding is less than a month old, so other than the sheet set you mentioned to us (which we removed), the bedding is new. Glad you enjoyed the area."
