Fun-packed weekend with grandkids at Luray Caverns, zip lining and golfing. Townhome is new. Comfy beds. Basic but met expectations.

Traveled to Luray, VA for a weekend of hiking and celebrating our son’s birthday. Townhouse was clean, easy to find, and convenient to Skyline Drive. Mountains surround the neighborhood. Close to downtown Luray.

The property was as advertised. The experience felt detached and disconnected from check-in to check-out. There was an email w/ passcode for entry but no welcome packet or goodies to show an owner's interest in making our stay more enjoyable. We felt processed rather than welcomed as a guest. The couch looked soiled and stained upon our arrival. The master lacked a box spring which made it feel like we were sleeping on the floor. There was on going construction immediately out the back door. The townhome lacked basic amenities like extra linens & towels. All these inconveniences were minor and we only mention them as opportunities for improvement.. Finally, check-out was awkward. I had finished packing up the SUV and reminded my wife to make a final check through the townhome to be sure we had everything out. She turned to the door and reentered the code at 10AM (on the dot) and was locked-out. May I suggest 10 minute grace period for future guests? Our overall experience was mediocre. It could have been great with just a little effort!

The townhome was new and so was the neighborhood. There was on-going construction immediately behind our unit. For a new place, I would have expected the amenities to be in better working order. For example, of the 3 toilets in the unit, only 1 seat was securely fastened to the bowl. The couch, in the living room, was badly stained with what looked like spilt beverages from previous guests. The master bedroom was not much of a bedroom when you consider that the bed was missing its boxspring. We were left to crouch down very low to sit on the edge of the bed. All these details amounted to minor inconveniences. However, with a little attention to detail and some better choices in furnishings, this review could have easily gone from okay to great.
Luray, as a destination, was this rental's saving grace! Our choice in location turned out to surpass our expectation! The Caverns were very close and the formations in the caves were mind-blowing! For such a small town, there was plenty to see and loads to do. We took advantage of the Shenandoah River and spent [5] blissful hours following the current and enjoying the majestic views. We zip-lined down Bear Mountain and enjoyed the local shops. We hope to return again, but will definitely upgrade our choice in rentals next time!
One more suggestion, we were trying to be good guests and leave by 10AM. I had just finished packing everything into our SUV and the family was seated and ready to go. I then reminded my wife to go back into the unit and make one final sweep to assure we had everything. She put our code into the lock and she was denied access. I looked down at my watch and it was exactly 10 AM. Might I suggest a grace period of 15 minutes. It just seems like something a graceful host might consider!
Thanks Luray for the great memories!
