• Quaint and very comfortable cottage

  My spouse and I used this property while attending a large family Thanksgiving in nearby Mathews, VA. The property was easy to find and quite private, with only one other house in view. Check-in was as directed (but there was no clue how to lock the door when leaving --push and hold star button). The house is definitely old, but refreshingly renovated with bright, comfortable rooms. All appliances/features worked as expected, and they even had double-filtered water so there is no need to bring along bottled water. The only criticism we have is that the squeaky hinges to the bathroom door need oiled. We did not get to use the kayaks to paddle out to Mobjack Bay -- so we will definitely be back for that in warmer weather! Many thanks for letting us stay at your lovely and comfortable property.

  The old home was full of character and charm! The location is very private and quiet! Really enjoyed our morning coffee on the dock! Speaking of coffee, we left a small can and a coffeemaker for the next guest! We drink too much coffee to use the French Press everyday😊. The only change that needs to be made on the listing is that there isn’t a washer and dryer! Thanks for sharing your delightful home!

• Wanted it to be better

  We had numerous issues during our stay. Dishes were not clean to start with. No drip coffee maker so we had to improvise. Non stick pan was useless. Laundry is outside. The water shutoff during our stay and bathroom was not useable during rain storm due to septic issues. You have to walk outside to do the laundry. We also did have a problem with fruit flies when we arrived and cockroaches in cupboards. We were able to get a trash can with a lid to help with fruit flies along with setting our own traps. We really wished it was better but as is I felt I overpaid for what I got in return.

  - We've spoken with our cleaning team to ensure that all dishes are clean, and they will make sure everything is properly inspected before each new guest arrives.
  - A Keurig coffee maker and complimentary coffee are provided for all guests. If you had trouble finding the coffee supplies, reaching out would've allowed our guest contact to share their location with you.
  - We haven’t received feedback on the non-stick pan before, but we’ll check it right away and replace it if necessary.
  - The listing, pre-stay information, and welcome book mention that the laundry area is just outside the back door so guests have an idea of what to expect before and after booking.
  - Unfortunately, the septic issue you encountered was caused by historic rainfall from Hurricane Helene. This created a unique situation with water drainage that was beyond our control.
  - We use a pest control service that sprays quarterly, but heavy storms can sometimes push pests indoors temporarily. It was our pleasure to provide a lidded trash can as soon as you requested it.
  We do all we can to provide an excellent guest experience and we look forward to hosting many satisfied visitors.
