The Rocking Horse Retreat is outside of Carmine in a beautiful setting. I enjoyed the quiet and the green rolling grass and all the wildflowers. Rented this to attend Round Top Antique week. A good location. About 15 minutes easy drive to Round Top. The only problem is windows do not open and the wall air conditioner is above one bed --- did not need a/c --- but, could not have slept with this over me. Thunder storm early one morning work me -- but, what was scary was the wooden window blinds rattling like crazy in the wind. I thought the window was going to blow out. The property manager is very responsive to questions and requests.
Hostess was very responsive to our questions and was very quick to replace the broken toilet handle.

Spent couple of days there with family (2 adults and 2 small kids). Outside is great, with cows and friendly goose nearby. Short walk to the pond. Stayed in Arizona room, it shares the wall with Texas room, and missing a kitchen (it has microwave and mini fridge). There is a great charcoal grill outside. The side road to the property is gravel, but it’s only 2 miles. We mostly enjoyed the quiet hood, visited Somerville state park and a couple of small towns nearby.

My daughter and I came for our first trip to Round Top and Warrenton. We brought her 9 month old baby who proved to be a wonderful traveler. The location was ideal: very peaceful and far enough away from the show traffic to really relax. It was also reasonably priced. The only issue we had was with communication before we arrived. I sent a message for the lock box code, but never received a reply. Fortunately, someone was on the property who called to get the code for us. I didn’t even have a number to call, so we were lucky she was there when we arrived. I would definitely recommend this property and would stay here again.
