Location Details

This home boasts a fantastic location perched on the Blanco River which starts just twenty or so miles upstream and is nourished by many small springs including some on the property. Originally a communal meeting place for a local German community and later a Girl Scout Camp, the Rock House preserves this history along with a fifty foot long stone outdoor table and other structures from that era.

Bring your water toys and fishing poles to enjoy the river right from the property. Spend your afternoon floating in the river and then recovering in the shade of your private porch, the many live oak trees or shared pavilion.

The very best of Blanco awaits just 3 miles away. Enjoy a visit to the Real Ale Brewery tasting room and then browse the shops, antique stores, and restaurants of Main Street. You can also plan your visit around the many area events including bicycle rides, the Blanco Lavender Festival and monthly market days in Blanco and nearby Wimberley, Gruene and Fredericksburg!

While you're in the Hill Country, tour of some of the many wineries, breweries and distilleries that stretch from Blanco to Fredericksburg! Check out the live music and dancing schedule in nearby Luckenbach, Twin Sisters and Fisher, or pop over to Albert Hall for beer, wine and great food truck fare.

For something different, enjoy a burger and beverage during a game of nine pin bowling at the nearby Blanco Bowling Club. Just be sure to tip the local teens who manually reset the pins during your game. If golf is your sport, try out the fairways of Vaaler Creek Club, The Club at Rebecca Creek, Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course and Lakeside Golf.

Shoppers can enjoy the vast selection of bargains at the nearby San Marcos outlet malls which include favorites like Last Call, Armani, Hugo Boss, Carolina Herrera and Kate Spade. Antique hunters will enjoy the many area shops filled with special treasures.

History buffs are encouraged to drive 30 minutes to the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park - the birthplace, home, ranch, and final resting place of President Lyndon Baines Johnson, and enjoy the abundant springtime bluebonnets and other wildflowers encouraged by his wife Lady Bird.

Start and end your day watching the abundant bird and wildlife along the Blanco River, including deer, armadillos, raccoons, skunks, opossums, owls and turkey, as well as the occasional osprey, snake and elusive river otter.

  • The Rock House is AMAZING

    5/5

What an amazing place! My wife and I booked a get away for ourselves. And we thoroughly enjoyed the Rock House! It is an old rock homestead structure on the banks of the Blanco river in a picturesque setting. We spent our mornings drinking coffee by the river while fishing a bit. We went into town for lunch at quaint downtown cafés and explored historic downtown Blanco. One night we prepared a delicious meal in the very nice and modern kitchen and outdoor grill. One night we drove into Gruene/New Braunfels and had a romantic dinner at the Gristmill River Restaurant! We were at the Rock House for four days and three nights, and never once had an urge to turn on the TV. We spent time on the river, we saw a couple of foxes and other wildlife also enjoying the well-maintained property. The hosts were super gracious and had everything prepared and ready. We were in need of nothing. Outside the cabin looks like a rustic haven, and the inside looks like it is straight out of a modern home magazine! Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we will book it again soon. There are also other rentals on the property. One is much larger and we may book for ourselves, our kids, and our grandkids!I do have one complaint though. The three cabins on the property are named, the Rock House, The Paper House, and the Main House. I think they missed a great opportunity to name the third house, the Scissor House! :-D

  • Amazing Stay

    5/5

Everything about this property was so cute and perfect. We loved getting to use the kayaks, the kids had a great area to run and play, and they even had a swing (which my kids loved). Perfect place for a relaxing get away.

  • Charming and Comfortable cottage

    5/5

I rented this cabin to get away from work and kids and have a little solo time to prepare for the new year. It was a lovely place. It was cold and rainy, so I stayed in the cabin a lot. It has a huge fireplace that I kept going the entire stay. Everything was clean and it had all the amenities for me to cook all of my meals. The owner was absolutely a joy to work with and checking and out was super simple. I have no complaints - I would definitely stay there again. The only downside, which didn't matter to me, was that the location does have a busy rode just on the other side of the river. So if total peace and quite is required, you would have to just keep that in mind. It's definitely a gem that I will return to.
