We had read a bit on Manhattan Project/Oakridge history and enjoyed the book The Girls of Atomic City by Denise Keirnan. We had a high expectation for our visit. We had many wonderful surprises! It is so amazing to get to walk through places of history!!
Our home was actually a refurbished C house of the project. It has been wonderfully refurbished and modernized. The home was so tidy and cute! Our host was quick to respond, giving eating recommendations and answering questions. The home is a 20 minute walk to Jackson square which was one of the shopping centers for eta of the Manhattan project. Kind of wished we brought our Pickleball paddles as there are at least 8 lighted courts 10-15 minute walk. Neighborhood was quiet and loaded with many of the different style homes similar to ours-truly a Manhattan project mecca. We also enjoyed the Oakridge history museum, the Oakridge National science museum including getting on to the bus tour of Oakridge and historic and contemporary sites. Great history telling by various guides at each site. The town is cute and pretty enough area to warrant a nice visit, even if you’re not a history geek as we were. If you want to learn about out US contemporary history from 1935-45 plus to present-this area is rich. Also saw Civil war signage but needed to focus on the Manhattan project. I highly recommend this home, host and area. PS. Bed was comfy as well. PS. Our trip was around October 20-the trees were spectacular!! So thankful!
