This is an old country home. Not horrible, not ideal, at least for us. I see they've added "rustic" to the description. That's a good word. Pros: Stargazing - pretty dark at night. Beautiful skies. Area - we felt safe. No worries about being there alone at night. Nice area. Wildlife refuge nearby with hiking trails. If you have kids, you should know the house sits close to the road, which has a 45 mph speed limit. Would need to keep an eye on them. Bathroom - Large enough to feel comfortable. Great shower/water pressure. Price - The low cost made it affordable - but it is definitely a step down from other moderately-priced places we've stayed. Cons: We found a sign telling us we were sharing the house with the country tax office on Tuesdays. And, we couldn't lock the doors to the office, so the person working in the tax office had full access to our belongings. We were assured the tax person would not work there that day, but that's just a horrible plan. And it is the plan - it's written into the laminated Welcome sheet we found on the table. Tripping hazards/mobility issues - It's an old home. Just about every room on the first floor requires a step up or down. For example, the kitchen is about 1-2 inches lower than the dining room. Need to be careful. The opening to the upstairs is about 5-1/2 feet. I'm 6'5" - it was awkward to say the least. TV - no cable or satellite. Had Roku hooked up to a small flat-screen, which gave us access to ESPN - but the picture buffered and would freeze quite often. If you like to relax watching TV, this is not the place for you. XBox was broken. Furniture - uncomfortable. Futon-style couch wasn't comfortable for sitting. AC - works well on first floor, not so much on the second floor. They did provide fans for two of the bedrooms, which kept it relatively comfortable. Water - tastes bad. They did provide a case of water, and we ended up buying another one. Overall - we made the best of it, but the expectation of sharing the house with the tax office made us quite angry. The odd construction (uneven floors, etc.) had us worried we would trip going from room to room. Wouldn't go back.

This was a cozy, quirky spot for me and my friends to spend a birthday weekend. We enjoyed walking to the nearby pond in the morning, and there were a number of lovely natural areas within short driving distance. I really appreciated Kim's friendly welcome and she made everything easy and clear. We drove to Avonia beach on Lake Erie -- about an hour away -- and stopped at Woodcock Creek Lake on the way back. There were lots of icecream spots to choose from, but we elected to save room for s'mores around the firepit back at the house (thank you for making that possible!). Bonus! there was a meteor shower! We were so glad to be in a place where we could see the stars. Two small things the owners might want to be aware of: 1) there were no screens on the downstairs windows -- we really needed them because it was high bug season and the weather outside was perfect. 2) We were awakened by repeated gunfire -- sounded like target practice next door -- on the second morning. The occasional gunshot is to be expected in the country, but this was surprising. Overall this was a very pleasant stay and I would recommend this house for anyone wishing to stay in the area. We don't have kids, but it seems like a nice place for families -- lots of space to play outside, clean and cozy inside.
