Cute and cozy stay, the host Margo was on the property if we needed anything and she was very friendly and welcoming. It was quiet and private and just what we needed to recharge!

We had the best time in Brookings! The host was so friendly and so were her pups. Her land was absolutely beautiful and she thought of everything we could possibly need. It was like having a thoughtful neighbor.
The house is so quaint with beautiful artistic touches that are all her own. The river is secluded, peaceful, and she provided both floats and kayaks. She also recommended the best spots in town to eat (and there are many). Five stars doesn't cover it.

Loved the entire setup. Treehouse for the kids, Comfy accommodations for the big kids. Murphy, the super friendly greeter dog, the horse, llama and the river access ticked all the right boxes. Margo, the host, was super accommodating. My daughter and I were lucky enough to be invited for a carriage ride with Zoe. We grilled steaks and ate them outside on a beautiful evening. Unforgettable experience. Will definitely be back.
Buddy and Margo were the list gracious, communicative, kind and wonderful hosts. We had the pleasure and fortune of extending our stay, because we loved it so much! The house is clean, has so many cooking utensils, making it easier to make your own meals, which we did, graciously using local salmon and cod from the harbor! The animals on the property are so welcoming and amazing-especially Murphy, who not only us, but our pups fell in love with! The property is pure magic, blending a rural atmosphere with the gorgeous river, and a short drive to the beach, with the most epic sea life! If you want to experience Valhalla, rent this place, as we plan to do year after year!

On record, I have never written one of these because I would rather spend my time enjoying life and personally if a place is a good or great stay I will book again rather than write a review. I digress, on to the stay.
We had reserved the place in advance a day prior, so the owners had plenty of time to get the place ready. We left Eugene and spend 4 hours on the road to get there, stoping along the way and enjoying ourselves knowing we could arrive anytime after 3pm and be fine. We arrived around 6pm (ish) and the gate was closed, we called, and the owner said they had no idea we were coming so they asked for 30-45min to clean. We obliged and headed back to brookings (it’s a 20min drive one way up river) to spend some time on the beach. After over an hour the gal calls and says it’s clean and ready to go. So we drive back (now spending a total of 1hr and 20min driving back and fourth) and have to unload in the dark, not a total nightmare but with a 15 month old it’s hard.
On to cleanliness, we were told the place was going to be cleaned in advance, not the case. The place was tidy and things had been picked up, but the floors were so dirty all of our socks were black, not a little brown, black. So it’s obvious to me she did NOT clean to floors.
The futon, so after dealing with the place not being ready, and realizing the floors were too dirty for our daughter to walk around without shoes I decided to sit on the new looking futon. As soon as I sat down the couch made an awful noise and we heard and saw parts fall off the metal futon. So I grabbed my tools from the truck and proceeded to do what I could to repair their poorly made futon. From what I could tell EVERY BOLT was loose and not snug, to the point of the nuts falling off. Which is exactly what fell on the floor in one spot. I had to fix it because if there was random bolts and nuts laying on the ground our 15 month old would put them in her mouth!
To sleep, the bed was relatively comfortable but…at some point in the middle of the night their very friendly dogs were let outside, no big deal, except they proceeded to bark right outside the house we were staying in for several minutes. Again, 15 month old, interrupted sleep, not a fun thing.
Other smaller issues included, the WiFi was so terrible it might as well not have been turned on. Like couldn’t FaceTime family for Easter, couldn’t buffer Netflix at all. And the Keurig coffee maker is broke, stuck on descale.
Hi Cody, the homeowners were surprised to read your review, as they are accustomed to providing 5-star experiences, and would like to clarify the following details:
- We encourage guests to thoroughly review the listing before booking, to ensure they find the perfect vacation home for their needs. The listing does state that this is rural property and that there are animals on-site in a fenced area of the property; a llama, a horse, and a dog, but we’re sorry if this caught you off guard.
- The location of this vacation property is part of its charm, however, this also means that internet and cell service can occasionally be slow in this area. While we cannot control these external factors, we’re sorry this impacted your stay.
- Ensuring our guests enjoy a peaceful and comfortable experience is important to us. Your feedback regarding the dogs and the noise from the brand-new futons has been noted, and we've taken immediate action by fitting rubber tips to the metal legs of the futons to minimize any potential noise disturbance.
- Regarding the dogs, they indeed play an important role in safeguarding our rural property and our animals, but we understand that their presence might not suit everyone's preferences. The dogs only bark when they are protecting the property and we’re sorry you woke up when they were chasing away some deer.
- We want our guests to arrive at a vacation home that is 100% ready for their stay, so we take the cleanliness of our properties seriously. Considering your reservation was a last-minute same-day booking, we had just mopped the floors with hot water so we find it hard to believe that they were not clean when you arrived. We’re confident that the home met our high cleanliness standards before your check-in.
- As you can see by our many great reviews, we are accustomed to providing five-star experiences, and look forward to this property hosting many happy travelers!
