  • Solid Stay & Fairly Priced

    4/5

It's great to have a quiet place in the country on lots of land -- even if most was in soybeans. Our child enjoyed the frogs around the pond, tire swing, and chasing fireflies (until the last day when a sign in the lawn said it was treated with something so stay off, and then we also saw less fireflies afterward, ugh, stop spraying!).

Another reviewer mentioned a few issues we'd like to piggyback on: nails on main bedroom's bathroom and closet thresholds not pounded in all the way, the lack of curtains in the bright, east-facing front room, etc). The knob from the microwave was missing, so that took a bit to figure out.

The first / main level is tastefully updated, and I'm sure the vinyl plank floors make cleaning easier. Do wish the main suite had AT LEAST a TV on the wall -- if not also two chairs and a table to make a little sitting area (or a sofa even would be nice to create another get away spot -- and actually a king bed would have been nice). The large sunroom was fantastic and highly lounged in by us, but could also use another sofa or chairs and maybe a larger TV. The basement was really moldy smelling, which surprised us on a house roughly only 20 years old, and the pool table is not full size while the cues are missing tips; so yeah, we didn't really use the basement like we'd hoped based on pics.

Still, it was a comfortable home that was everything we needed and then some. It was clean for us when we arrived, no issues there, although most of the windows were unlocked so do check them as you always should on a rental. The front room's window looks like someone had chipped away at the wood sash and one of the locks on one window did not work.

There were lots of odd things outside -- like an old container of animal food in a tree, paint rollers thrown behind a shrub, nice chairs stacked in an outdoor barn, an old kayak filled with water and growing plants that frogs were living in (kinda cool actually), and various figurines from previous owners in various states of disrepair (including what looked to have been a waterfall and fountain in the pond). Those are just observations, charming in a way, and did not detract from the stay. But overall, there are still some little TLC things to do on what looks like a home that was a bit rushed to be ready for renters, including painter's tape in the laundry room all around the ceiling.

Would stay again for sure! We rent homes a lot all over.

  • Trashy grounds (literally), urine on a toilet seat, sticky floors,

    3/5

Upon arrival, we tried to use the only visible keypad to get into the house. Well, later, we find out that it doesn't work. Instead, we needed to touch a specific spot on the front door lock to show the keypad. It would have been great to know this before arrival. Instead, it took many calls to the house manager (no answer), then a few calls to Evolve (who was FANTASTIC).

While I was on the phone, my wife and children walked around the property picking up trash, including broken glass and pieces of ceramic tiles in the driveway. We picked up trash throughout our week-long stay, and I know we didn't get all of the glass.

At this point in the review, we are inside.

    Negatives:

    - There weren't any toilet paper holders.

    - Interior thresholds had nails sticking out of them.

    - The front bedroom needs blinds to keep the sun out.

    - The parking listing should be changed. Unless they are smart cars, this is not a 2-car garage.

    - The pond, while there, is disgusting and has many pipes running into it. According to the owner, sump pumps empty into the pond. It was a bit of an eyesore and it was odd to all of a sudden hear water being poured into the pond.

    - There are four upstairs sinks, and we only have three hand towels. We received more when the owner came to "clean" the house, but why didn't we have AT LEAST one per sink?

    - Some floors were sticky. The owner said it was due to the cleaner used, but why wasn't all of the floor sticky? If it is the cleaner I assume that means every cleaned surface would be sticky. So, either the cleaner isn't causing the stickiness, the cleaner doesn't work the same on all area of the house, or not all of the floor has been cleaned. I'm not sure what other options there are.

    - There was urine on a toilet seat when we arrived. This was blamed on a maintenance person who was there after the house was cleaned. Why is a maintenance person there after it was cleaned?

    - There were chemicals sitting out in the garage where children were playing.

    - Construction debris was found throughout the house and outside.

    - The bunk beds were VERY squeaky.

    - Various things throughout the house are broken.

    Positives:

    - The central location between the Columbus Zoo and The Wilds was great.

    - The yard was good for our dog and kids.

The trash and urine was blamed on a party the week prior. Supposedly the owner spent three days cleaning the house and pick up up trash. If so, they should have spent another day at least.
