The house is lovely, as advertised with a great view. Clean, warm and very cozy. The streets were somewhat busy w/ people coming and going at all hours. Host communicated well prior to arrival, let us coordinate early check in as it was offseason. Train can be heard in the distance but wasn’t a bother. The host was communicative but the third party rental company that owns the listing on VRBO was awful to work with, we encountered some issues and spent hours on the phone with them and they did not attempt to remedy anything. We ended up leaving a day early because we felt unsafe. Newburgh has a high crime rate with many offenders living in the surrounding area so keep your wits about you when walking around.

From the owner:
"Hi Alix, as the property owner, I am delighted that you were pleased with the property and am sorry that you did not receive the customer service you deserved from Evolve or VRBO. I understand that you had a frightening incident during your stay and want to emphasize, as I did to you, that neither I nor any of my previous guests have had any similar experiences during their stays. Wishing you all the best."
Wonderful stay in a beautiful historic home! Wonderful host, very responsive and flexible. Easy check-in. We all had such a great time. Plenty of space for our group of 8. Walkable distance to the cute downtown area with shops and cafes. As other reviewers said, you can hear the trains at night but we were all totally fine with it.

Hi Jason, we hope you enjoyed aspects of your stay at this property! The homeowner had reached out before your arrival to ensure everything would be up to your standards and was available to address any concerns during your visit. Since we didn’t hear from you, it’s challenging to know what could have been improved, but the homeowner remains committed to providing an excellent experience for future guests. If there’s anything specific we can do to make your next stay a 5-star experience, please don’t hesitate to let us know!
Place is an old house with old furnishings. Lots of dust. House is situated near the Hudson beautiful views. However, this is near the train tracks. You will the train all night. Rules of the house, you can’t wear shoes, take out the trash, tidy up, run the dishwasher, strip the bedding, and then you have a 250 cleaning fee on top of that. Wouldn’t recommend.

Owner's response: "Pesach, the right vacation home is everything, and we sincerely apologize that the home was not up to our cleanliness standards.
We apologize for your experience. Cleanliness is a top priority for us as is responsiveness. Our guest contact should have ensured the cleanliness of the house before your stay and should have immediately offered to have the house cleaned when you contacted him. Because of his failure on both counts, we have fired him and hired a new cleaning company to ensure that this does not happen again.
Like all short-term rentals, we do have a list of things we ask our guests to do, such as taking out the trash, stripping the beds so the cleaners know which beds were slept in, and making sure the home is left the way it was when you arrived. We apologize that you felt this was asking too much."
