The house is nice. Would like to go back after they finish making improvements. The docks is very mucky to get to. There are planks so you don’t have to walk in the muck. I feel the planks are not secure.. They need to clear brush on path to the dock. Add more planks that are secure. Then you can get to the lake.

Place was rustic just 2 drawbacks, first being internet reception in Otter Lake is generally poor, not owners fault.
Second as rainy this spring has been path to lack through woods was not passable. Cabin was very functional though

The experience of watching the eclipse with my family out on the dock was awesome. We enjoyed taking the canoe out around Otter Lake and barbecuing in the yard. It was very relaxing. It was fun exploring the different areas around Forestport.

The heading for the rental says "A cozy cabin on Otter Lake." The description describes a lake path where there is a canoe available on property for use. I reserved this for my family of five: three teens and two adults, with the intention to enjoy kayaking and paddle boarding because of the ability to access the lake from the property. This is incorrect. There was a path that had to be removed to protect the wildlife/ecosystem on the bog that connects to the lake. We had no access whatsoever. When I contacted the host to discuss resolution of the problem he suggested a very minor adjustment, considering the in season rental price we had to pay. I offered paying the off season rate since we used the cabin but had to make other arrangements correct the lack of water access from the property. While he responded to other emails he refused to respond to that request. He had advanced knowledge of us securing the booking for the second payment and never shared that knowledge with us. He also only shared further directions for the cabin that is more expansive and could alter opting to rent the property until two days before we arrived.
I find the way this was handled was underhanded and misleading. The cabin was rustic and is as appears as it is in the pictures but if you are hoping to store anything in the cabinets or dressers change plans. They left all of their personal items so we had very limited storage. We were there for 13 days so having food not stored away and clothes not able to go in the dressers was a frustration. If you are renting this off season for a getaway that has nothing to do with the lake then this is a reasonable pet friendly place for you. If you actually want what is described with lake access look elsewhere.
Hi Catherine, we passed your comments on to the homeowner who would like to share the following: We do our very best to uphold high standards of hospitality for our property and provide all of our guests with an exceptional experience.
- As we aim for transparency, our listing details and photos are accurately advertised so guests can verify if the home fits their needs. We're sorry to hear that the property did not meet your expectations and as we value guest satisfaction, we made an effort to make things right.
- The dock is accessible, and we suggest guests wear waterproof boots for a smooth journey along the path. APA regulations prevent us from installing a boardwalk in this location.
- Guests can rest assured regarding storage and amenities, we offer ample space for your belongings. We provide a dresser, coat hangers, wall hooks, and several luggage racks to ensure you have a convenient stay.
We do all we can to make our homes the best possible experience, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests.
I loved the camp. It was clean, roomy, and had all the things you would need to get by. It was also a convenient location to everything. I gave it a 4star because the picture was deceiving. You couldn't sit in the chairs and see the water which was a wide stream leading to the lake. The path to get to the canoe was horrible. It was very swampy and slippery. Be sure to bring boots!! If you made it to the canoe, you can paddle to the lake.
