This cabin was perfect for our Fall long weekend with our dog and three adults. The property is among a few houses on the edge of the new Blue Hill State Forest and has access to the lake via a trail. The State Forest was formerly a ski resort. Trails have not yet been set up, the existing ones are overgrown but beautiful, especially the trail up the mountain from the new parking lot on the north end. There was also parking less than a mile from the cabin, south of the lake, but it was even more overgrown and a lot of bow hunters were there heading away from the lake since they can't hunt near houses. Communication was good, very private location with pretty sunrise from the deck, kitchen was well stocked, although we did have to buy matches for the wood stove and fire pit as the lighters were all out of fuel. Second to last house on the street and nice place to walk the dog. Easy drive to Zoar Valley and other state parks and state forests. It will be even nicer if someone can do some trail maintenance. Very minor issues: King bed was too soft for me, "smart" thermostat kept turning itself back on making it too hot to sleep the first night, so we left it off after that, motion-detector lights out front are super bright and made us not want to use that patio and fire pit at night, upstairs TV needs an upgrade, it glitched out on Netflix, watched downstairs. We would definitely go back. Perfect base camp for hikers, hunters, or anyone looking for privacy and views.

I recently spent a 3-night weekend getaway at this beautiful cabin, and it was everything I needed to relax and reset. The space is stunning—clean, thoughtfully decorated, and the perfect blend of modern comfort and rustic charm. It offers the kind of peace and quiet that lets you truly connect with nature and just breathe. My family and I felt right at home and left feeling refreshed. If you’re looking for a cozy, serene escape, I definitely recommend this little gem.
It is an older place but was clean and felt very like home. I would rent again.

If you're a microwave meal family and planning to eat out and not be on the property, this place is for you! If, like us, you are hoping to have fun family time enjoying a 10 acre lake with kayaks, look elsewhere. There's a reason there are no lake frontage pics! 2 acre property is unkempt and overgrown. "Path" down to lake is steep, slippery when wet, tree fallen covering path (our son cut away to make easier for us to traverse). 6/6 floating dock was still in winter storage & only lake access. Overgrown fire pit by lake with no seating. NO kayaks (owner said they'd be there, but can't find them). Grass cut around only house day after we arrived and our son had to push the dock in with permission. Was able to fish from dock but no kayaks ever arrived, so much for being ON the lake. No thought whatsoever to lake frontage being usable! On to the "smart house". Lots of bling in the pics! Need more practicality! Family of 7 arrived to find 6 forks, no advertised crock pot, not a single casserole dish making my meal planning impossible (Owner did respond quickly and sent those items-- however they should have been there). 1 rusty cookie sheet with no foil provided. Teflon peeling pans and not a decent flat pan for making French toast, bacon, quesadillas...just making simple meals was challenging. 1 dishtowel, 1 roll of PT, NO dishcloth, only a sponge. Boasts sleeping for 7, yet only seating for 5 in the living room...and it's the most uncomfortable seating ever! So much for cozy family movies when the rain forces you in! Pull out couch consisted of that leather sofa laying flat, stiff as a board. Owner did have a blow up camp pad which saved one son being able to sleep. King bed is crunchy getting in/out and you feel every movement from spouse. Every bed also seemed to not have transitioned into summer as they had a sheet and winter comforter. No summer blankets. Most windows don't open. 1 towel/1 Washcloth per person yet they have white bath robes hanging in the bedrooms? Bling! Who uses 1 washcloth for 5 days?! 1 hand towel per bath. No extras anywhere forcing a load of laundry 2nd day in. Currently, there are ants marching along all the windows, walls, floors, ceilings dropping on you as you're relaxing in bed or on the couch. Sad, because with some TLC and some grunt work cleaning (IN &out!), changes to the things mentioned above, this place could be exceptional with the current amenities listed.
We are very happy with our stay. Would only recommend a railing to go up and down stairs. And it would have been nice to have a clear dry path to the lake.
