Cabin was very nice and nicely kept up. Kitchen was stocked with all cooking essentials. We had an issue but the owners were so nice and helpful with the problem . We came up to go snow tubing at highlands outpost .

If we could give zero stars, we would. Our stay was a nightmare from start to finish. We dealt with a serious gas leak on the first night, which forced us to call the fire department and deal with the issue till 11pm after arriving at 5pm. They confirmed the leak, shut off the gas, moved the carbon monoxide detector to the correct location to work, and told us the water heater needed inspection. The next day by 11 am, the hot water heater malfunctioned again, and as instructed by the fire department, we had to turn off the main gas line. We were without hot water, heat, or the ability to cook for the rest of our stay.
The local property manager, Elite Property Management, was unhelpful and dismissive. When we first contacted them about the gas smell, he downplayed the situation and told us to leave the laundry room door open to dissipate the gas. Only after we insisted it was a serious issue did he tell us to call the fire department, which was the last we heard from him.
Apart from the fire department getting involved, the house was filthy. It had stained sheets, broken faucets, no screens on the windows, musty smells, a humidifier draining into the primary bath, and a shotty internet service. We expected “rustic,” but what we got was unlivable (literally). Unfortunately, we had no other option but to stay at the property.
We attempted to find alternative accommodations in the area, but the rural location made it impossible. The only nearby hotel was fully booked, and the available options were over 45 minutes away—too far to move on such short notice and too far from the reunion we were attending. Relocating with an 83-year-old, a pregnant woman, and a child was impractical, so we were forced to endure unsafe and substandard conditions for the remainder of our stay.
Stay away until they fix the safety issues and meet basic cleanliness standards. We've asked booking sites to remove the listing that provides a report from the Savannah Fire Department, photos, and a detailed affidavit. We urge you to research google reviews and message boards before booking.
We did our best to reach a fair resolution with the owner via the intermediary Evolve Property Management (which was very helpful and responsive)--but the owner refused a full refund or to take full accountability.
This property is unsafe and unfit for guests, and we hope our experience serves as a warning to others.
Hi DHB, we take guest feedback seriously and passed your comments on to the homeowner who would like to share the following:
– Safety is a top priority for us, so we take concerns about a potential gas leak very seriously. Both the fire department and gas company inspected the property and confirmed there was no gas leak. The water heater’s pilot light was on and functioning properly. The gas was turned off as a precaution based on your concerns, which temporarily impacted hot water and heat availability.
– The property manager was available to assist and it's important to note that they didn't advise calling the fire department.
– Cleanliness is very important to us, and we haven't received similar comments before so we’re disappointed to hear you found the property lacking in this area. We’ve shared this feedback with our dedicated cleaning team to ensure improvement for future guests.
– We provide T-Mobile internet, which is currently the best available option in this mountainous region. It may slow down if multiple devices are streaming, and we’re updating the listing to set clearer expectations about the service.
– After investigating, we were unable to confirm any musty smells. A dehumidifier is intentionally left in the primary bathroom between bookings to manage the naturally high humidity of the area, as the property resides in the Appalachian temperate rainforest.
– Regarding screens on windows, the property has an HVAC system, and windows should generally be kept closed to ensure the system runs efficiently and to limit potential interactions with wildlife.
– We’re unaware of any broken faucets, but we take all maintenance concerns seriously and will inspect to ensure everything is in proper working order.
– While a partial refund was provided in line with industry standards, we apologize that this was not the resolution you were hoping for.
The homeowner works hard to provide an outstanding guest experience and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied visitors.
