We found the house to be extremely clean, even the outdoor areas. The house is really excellent with a great kitchen, bathrooms and porch. Meals on the porch were a highlight. Having a good outdoor area (yard) is a necessity for our dog. She loved being on the porch with us and 'taking' her meals there too! The Super Walmart is very convenient. Restaurants vary but the Mexican restaurant in the Walmart parking lot was very good as was the Tropical Grill in Spruce Pine. City Diner (also Spruce Pines) is a good place and Pelican's Snowballs (water ice and ice cream) on HWY 226 is a fun place. Don't miss the Switzerland Cafe in Little Switzerland. Bring cash if you want to avoid the credit card surcharge most places have. (don't know but debit card may work) There are great waterfalls not far from the house but some are in areas currently closed. We went to Toms Creed Falls (25 minutes away). It's a beautiful high falls accessed by a short, easy trail off the road. Also, Roaring Fork Falls, a tall falls with a small wading pool at the bottom. It's an easy 3/4 mile trail in from a small parking area. And, Linville Falls, an absolutely beautiful falls. Currently, there are distant views from the trail but there's a fantastic viewing area at the end of the trail. Upper and lower falls trails are closed as is the visitor's center but there's plenty of parking at the trail head.
