  We were in Hatteras for an end-of-summer fishing trip. We loved the deck and the proximity to the marinas. The house was what we expected and wanted. We would book again for future trips.

• NIGHTMARE: Smoker's Paradise

  I thought this would be an amazing property to stay at because it was close to the beach and dining options in the adorable village of Hatteras. From the first moment we opened the door, this place was a nightmare!! The house REEKS of cigarette smoke!! I immediately messaged the owner via text (I have since learned we should always message on the platform). I informed her the house had someone actively smoking in it at the time (the house is registered as a duplex, but it must have been converted as a duplex, and not originally built as a duplex. There is no fire wall between the units, only an interior door so you can hear the tv's and people talking on just the other side. The units seem to share the same air system (Note: I am not an licensed HVAC person, but the fresh cigarette smoke was coming into OUR ventilation system.)) And when I say someone was actively smoking in the unit, I expected to see someone at the kitchen table with a lit cigarette. The owner seemed to brush off my concerns and only said "Yeah, it's another tenant. We will speak with them." She certainly knew of this issue BEFORE our arrival!! ONLY after repeated messages to the owner complaining about the stench of the smoke, did the smoking stop INSIDE of the rental. I noticed the lack of fresh smoke on the afternoon of day 5 of our 6 day stay, after our return from the beach.. it smelled like stale smoke. Yay!! Water bugs throughout our stay & the outdoor shower needed to be fixed. It was fixed on day 5

  Property is great, nice location. House is bright and fun. Loved the layout.However, two roaches crawled out for us in the living room at different times, so that was not pleasant for the young one. The glass door does not lock what so ever, so that was a safety concern with a Two Year old who just learned to open doors. Upon check out, two men walked into the house 20 mins before the very early check out time on the lowest floor - no idea who they were, they did not bother us but we could hear them talking. Thought they were cleaning people and we felt rushed out of the house. Did not appreciate that. Apparently they were not cleaning people, so still unsure who they were.

  Hi Hannah, we want all of our guests to rest easy when they stay with us, and we're sorry that you experienced some issues during your trip. The homeowner would like to share the following:
  - We've never experienced issues with roaches and take this feedback seriously. We wish you would have let us know during your stay so that we could have resolved this problem for you immediately but we've since had the home sprayed for pests.
  - The sliding glass door does, indeed, lock but needs to be pulled up a bit for the deadbolt to latch. We're sorry this was an issue for you and would have been happy to assist had you reached out.
  - Minor repairs were being done to the home around the time of your stay but there should not have been anybody in the home at this time. We are looking into this concern and appreciate you bringing it to our attention.
  - Our checkout time is advertised on our listing and is early so that we can ensure that the home is cleaned thoroughly due to the Pandemic.

• Great Spot in Hatteras!

  Came down for a fishing trip with some work friends and had a great time staying here. Ideal location, right across from Oden's Dock, and about half a mile from Teach's. Its a great, roomy house, and the owner was great as well! THANKS!
