  • Great Mountain Weekend

    5/5

We loved the Homestead Cabin at Settler's Mountain! My husband and I, along with our daughter and son-in-law, came to Bryson City for a ride on the Great Smokey Mountains Railroad. This cabin was the perfect place to stay! It was 12 minutes from the railroad and downtown Bryson City. We found plenty of shopping and places to eat nearby. The cabin itself is small but very quaint and charming. It was plenty of room for the four of us for the weekend. It was well stocked for those wanting to cook, had a washer and dryer, comfortable beds, great front porch, nice private fire pit (even though there was an outside burn ban while we were there), a nice electric fireplace, TV, and wifi. We would definitely stay in this little cabin again!

  • Late Fall Cabin Stay

    3/5

I spent a week using this cabin as a "home base" as I explored the Nantahala Forest and Great Smokey Mountains Park. The cabin sits near the foot of Settler's Mountain nestled between two ridges. In the summertime, this is probably welcome to keep the cabin cool, but during the colder season, it does get chilly in the area around the cabin.

The front of the cabin sits over a concrete shed that tends to keep cool. The cabin is able to get warm enough, but the front area won't get particularly hot. One feature that is very nice to balance this is that the bathroom has a powerful heater and vents so you can shower off and stay warm at the same time!

The furnishings are simple and sturdy, great for a couple of guys going out for adventures, less suitable for a romantic couple or small family.

The beds are soft, some would find them too soft, but I slept well enough. The rugs are thin and the floors are a little drafty over the shed, which means that you better have wool socks for walking around if it's cold out.

There is a bit of a walk up to the shared facilities where cut firewood is provided for $0.50 per stick and some good DVDs are available for borrowing. At the top of the "neighborhood" there is a trail that will lead you to the summit of Settler's Mountain. The hike is steep and challenging in a couple of places - a trekking pole or at least a hiking stick is recommended - but it was not so challenging that I ever had to crawl (although I did slide a little at one section).

All in all, I would find this cabin suitable for a rustic, adventurous person who is looking to get out to the various regional attractions. If you're looking for more of a cozy stay, one of the other cabins would likely be more suitable for your needs without having a huge jump in price.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the rustic Homestead 1. The family’s story made it even more special. Such a beautiful property!

We give a “3” star for the property manager, Dale, who I called the previous Tuesday. Evolve Properties made a point in the listing that they will try to accommodate late check outs if at all possible. I requested a one hour delay (11am versus 10 am) and was quickly and curtly told no because the properties are turned over so fast (check in is at 4). The other request was what type of coffee maker the home had so we could bring either pods or grounds. Dale didn’t know and was not interested in finding out. Not a huge deal but just would have been a nice customer service touch. It’s a Mr Coffee.:)

The property was clean. Loved the birds and quiet.

We really enjoyed our stay at this cottage it was so peaceful setting on the front porch drinking coffee and watching the humming birds. The cottage may have a few little quirks that let you know it’s an older place, but we loved it. We felt right at home. Also it’s a great place to stay if you’re driving a car, because it’s in the woods but you have a paved driveway to get to it
