Inside, the cabin is VERY clean, and well maintained. Large, several beds, plenty of dishes, silverware, pots, pans, bakeware, etc. The owners provide clear information and instructions throughout the cabin. Beds were comfortable with fantastic bedding; not old cabin bedding, but what appeared to be new coverlets, pillows, etc. Towels were soft and we were provided plenty of all types of towels (including kitchen).
As noted in the listing, there is no air conditioning so it can get quite warm during the day especially in the loft. We found 2 fans in the cabin that helped although we needed to clean the larger fan as it had thick dust on the blades. Two of the bedrooms with doors and bunk beds are in the lowest level/basement. Beds look nice, but one room has a concrete floor. I say this for parents who have kids that may not be willing to sleep in the "basement" or you want them closer as the primary bedroom is on the main level. One of the basement rooms with bunks also has a queen sized bed.
Outside is a different story and disappointing for such a well maintained inside. Deck that faces the lake was not an area we felt comfortable on as my husband noticed a few concerning spots. Screened porch has some gaps around the screens and doors, screen on one of the porch doors was held on by several push pins/tacks. Steps on porch were in the same condition as the deck and porch furniture was old with worn/stained cushions.
Fire pit had plenty of good chairs to sit and enjoy a fire. However, the entire grounds around the cabin is over run with weeds including weeds coming up through all of the pavers around the fire pit.
Kayaks provided (with life jackets) however, the area around the dock is very rocky so water shoes and ability to carry them up and down the stairs and launch them over rocks if you want to use them at the property. Appreciate they are available though!
Small dock on the lake with a gorgeous view of Caribou Lake. Unfortunately because of the trees, you don't get the a good view from the cabin. You can see the lake, it just could be better with some tree care.
If you don't care about the outside of the cabin and want a large space with several beds - this is a great cabin. I just don't know if the value is there for the price per night just for the inside.
It is such a shame that the outdoor area has not received the same care as the inside.
Hi John, thank you for your thoughtful review! We’re glad you enjoyed the cleanliness, comfort, and amenities inside the cabin. After sharing your feedback with the homeowner, they wanted to provide the following:
-We are currently planning to repair or replace the deck, but due to the remote location and limited resources, it's a challenging process. Our goal is to have improvements completed by next spring.
-The outdoor area is intentionally kept more natural to preserve the Northwoods environment and protect the water quality of Caribou Lake.
-We appreciate your comments about the kayaks. We’re considering a better location for easier access while maintaining the care team’s ability to monitor them.
We truly go above and beyond for our guests and are confident that future guests will have excellent stays. Thank you again for your valuable feedback!
This true log home was breathtakingly beautiful and fit our family of 4 adults and 2 kids perfectly. It was one of the cleanest rental homes I've been in and we so appreciated this. Beds were super comfy which made for a good night's sleep. Wi-Fi was great but cell service was a bit sketchy. Caribou Lake was gorgeous, I just wish I could have seen more of it from the house but most of the view is blocked by trees. Hosts were excellent and easy to get a hold of. I would definitely book this place again as it's so centrally located to so many activities and fun things to do. Thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful log cabin.

Beautiful place on a quiet, serene lake. We were there in late June and the road was lined with wildflowers. The lake was a bit chilly so we didn’t swim much, but enjoyed paddle boarding and kayaking. The house was perfect for our group of 10, we had 3 families and each had their own bathroom and bedroom area. We loved the rustic design of this house with all of the natural wood, yet all of the modern convenience we needed in the kitchen and bathrooms, plus a washer/dryer. We greatly appreciated that dogs are allowed so that the furry family members could enjoy the vacation, as well. We loved our stay so much that we are already talking about coming back next year.
