  • Great Getaway!

The cabin and grounds exceeded our expectations. It was very clean and well-organized. They even furnished firewood! I would love to stay there again.

  • Rustic Peace

    5/5

The property and log home are amazing! We spent plenty of time wading in the river and relaxing in and around the beautiful cabin. The house is clean, fun, and bigger than expected. The beds are comfortable and we couldn’t have asked for a better rental. A lot of love, time and craft were poured into this property and we are grateful to the hosts for sharing!

  • beautiful home but missing some things

    5/5

I came for a friends trip with a few other women. The house had more than enough room for all of us and we had a great time. The home was beautiful, but there were a few things that were not as expected. Listing so others are aware before booking, as we were surprised.

There wasn't really a view of the river in the summer, and to access the river you had to go down a VERY steep hill with something you can barely call a trail (it was all eroding). We are all fit so were able to do it, but would make the river inaccessible for older people or those with any mobility issues.

There is an inn right next door, so not much privacy as you can see and hear them. The fire pit is on the property line and within full view.

We had to turn on every lamp in the house (felt like 20) and it was still VERY dark in every room except the kitchen.

The house stayed pretty cool despite no air conditioning. But in one upstairs bedroom there is no window, only a door, and the door was screwed shut so there was zero airflow. Also very dangerous in a fire. The bunk room has no windows at all and has only a curtain as a door.

The home is filled with knickknacks. It meant there was no space to put any groceries. Some were also placed in dangerous locations, like on the stairs. There was also an unsecured rug at the top of the stairs that someone slipped on and fell down.

There is no table on the large patio and no screen door in the sliding door. Not good for summer, only winter really.

    Manager's Response:

Hi Maia, we're glad to hear that you and your friends had a great time and enjoyed the spaciousness of the home! We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following:
    - The path to the river is indeed steep, and due to Michigan’s wildlife preservation laws, no steps can be added. We understand it may be challenging for those with mobility issues, but there is another access point not far from the property.
    - The property next door is a rental cottage, not an inn, and the firepit is behind a row of pine trees, which acts as a natural barrier to privacy.
    - The lighting was enhanced when the property was converted into a short-term rental, and most guests appreciate the ambiance it creates. However, we’ll continue to monitor this feedback.
    - The upstairs bedroom without a window is a cozy nook with a curtain for privacy, not a traditional room. Additionally, we’ve removed the unsecured rug to ensure no more incidents occur.
    - The kitchen does have dedicated cabinets for guest storage, and we’ve since added a sign to make this clear for future visitors.
    - While the large patio doesn’t currently have a table, we appreciate your suggestion and plan to add one in the near future. The screen door was removed due to repeated damage, but we’ll look into alternative solutions.
Thanks for sharing your insights with us—we’re always looking to improve!
