My wife and I stayed at Martha and Steve's studio for a weekend to unwind after celebrating our wedding. Immediately upon walking in, it already felt like home. The studio was clean, organized, and stocked with a welcome package as well as a breakfast basket that the hosts offered to us before checkin. Although the studio is directly beneath their main house, we hardly heard them at all (and I hope they can say the same), and it truly felt like an isolated space. They seemed happy to interact with us as much as we felt necessary, which for us was minimal as we were seeking an escape from social obligations for a weekend. Ultimately, exactly what we were hoping for, and if we ever are looking to stay in the area again, this will be at the top of our list.

From the owners: "Ben, thank you so much for your kind words. You all were amazing and thoughtful guests. Thank you for leaving the studio in such great condition. We hope you do visit again. Congratulations on your wedding!"
If we could rate the MD/PA Retreat a 10 we would. We couldn’t have had a better place & wished we could’ve extended our stay. The retreat is decorated so adorable & the bed was so comfortable. The location of their place is convenient, as well. Our hosts were the best! They thought of everything & went above & beyond to make their guests welcomed & comfortable. Martha’s homemade goodies were delicious and the gift bag of snacks were as well. They even went through the trouble of leaving an anniversary card & cake for us, which was very thoughtful & a delightful surprise. Steve & Martha, thank you for making our anniversary extra special and for being the wonderful hosts that you are. We have already recommended your place to some family & friends, and we can’t wait to come back and stay at your lovely retreat again. Thanks again for everything:)

From the owners: "Thank you, Kelly! Such a pleasure having you both here. We're grateful for the opportunity to host you and the time you had even for a brief visit. Thank you for leaving the studio spotless. We hope to have another opportunity to host you in the future!"
This place is perfect for anyone visiting Emmitsburg, Gettysburg or even visiting someone/attending the National Fire Academy training center located in Emmitsburg. The studio is spacious and literally has everything someone would need to feel right at home. Steven and Martha go out of their way to have everything at your fingertips. From A personalized welcome bag with goodies to fresh half and half and a cheese board in the fridge, I felt cozier at their place than my own home! I could learn a thing or two from them! I arrived late on Thursday night to have a girls’ weekend with a friend attending the Academy. They were so thoughtful to leave the lights on knowing this was such a new place for me. On Friday, while she was in class, I had a very productive and comfortable day working from the studio taking video calls. Wi-Fi was awesome, coffee was perfect and the breakfast spread couldn’t be beat. Friday night, we grabbed an early dinner before heading back to the house to watch the sun go down over the farmland in the back yard chairs. Maggie, the primary residents’ dog also got to hang with us for a bit! Martha could tell that we were dog lovers and while she’s smart in having a no pet policy in case people are allergic inside the studio, she was so sweet to let us visit with Maggie while we were watching the sun go down outside. Throughout the entire weekend, we found ourselves grateful to have discovered this gem of a place!

From the owner: "Thank you, Jennifer! You guys were such fun and encouraging guests! Maggie appreciated you, too. Thank you for your very thoughtful review. We're glad you were here when our sunflowers were at their peak. We hope you make the trip an annual event. Take care."
I stayed here for three nights in mid August in connection with a Civil War seminar at both Antietam and Gettysburg. One could not ask for more. The advanced communication was amazing. The owners have thought of everything the guest would need and the property is clean, updated, efficient, and safe. The kitchen does not have a stand alone stove and oven but the portable table top oven and the electric plug in range does the job. The location is just minutes south of Gettysburg. There are some good places to dine in Emmitsburg. It's a 10 out of 10.
