Welcome to your next Nantucket retreat! The 1957 House offers great amenities and proximity to the area's best attractions. This classic shingle style home features three bedrooms and a spacious backyard and patio, perfect for a family to spread out and relax. Wood paneled walls and flooring provide a touch of vintage charm, while homey fixtures and furnishings offer a cozy environment for enjoying time together.
The 1957 House is not fancy, but is has charm and a warm comfortable feeling.
The location is tranquil -
Right on bus route to get to town (in season). If you want fancy and modern, don’t stay here. The furniture, linens, etc are dated and worn - but clean!
We would stay here again.
The positives: generally clean; adequately equipped kitchen and bathrooms; on bike path to Madaket Beach and Cliff Rd; not a place you’ll have to be too neat; cable and Netflix active; abundant and interesting books all about; ample parking.
The not so positives: dated and worn infrastructure; musty smell on arrival; one decent double bed, while the other double and two twins had saggy mattresses; backyard and patio poorly maintained. All in all probably not bad for the price.
Obviously this is an older property. That’s not a problem until you walk in and its age punches you in the nose. Literally. There is a musty odor that permeates everywhere and everything. It will ruin your stay. It’s in every room, every pillow and linen, and all the furniture. You’ll want to open windows and let a breeze help you out but the windows and screens are so ancient they are virtually unusable. The bedding was subpar, old mattresses with very little life left in them. Not comfortable. The kitchen, while decent and “clean” and usable, was also loaded with tiny ants which were a constant nuisance.
Nantucket is expensive, and this place is no different. But you will not get your money’s worth here under any circumstance. Either spend more on a better property or vacation somewhere else. You’ll spend your entire time here wanting to leave.
Love the 1957 house! The house is roomy and unique with amazing decor. We walked to the beach and Millie’s every day. Biked into town and to Bartlett farm and Cisco Brewers. Great place to see Nantucket
This place could be nice. For the price we paid it was like roughing it at a camp ground. The grill outside did not work, there was not hot water in second bathroom, no wash cloths or hand towels, had to use beach towels for showers, so had no beach towels for beach. On day 3 found some towels in dryer. Coffee maker is from 1960' and spilled everywhere. No welcome treats or maps or anything. I have stayed at many rental houses and this was lacking. It is old and it looks unkempt from start to finish. Dirty water ir tea left in kettle on stove, old clothes left in shower outside, 1 roll of oilet paper for 4 day stay, with no way to get to store. Should I go on.
