Started out rough. Hot water heater went. The company was on top of it and was fixed the next morning. Then it was smooth sailing. Close to beach and shopping.

From outside, the house was the worst looking on the street. As soon as I walked through the front door I was disappointed. The house small and cramped and we decided that someone paid a lot of money for a photographer for the ad. This house was advertised as family friendly, it is not. We had a 9, 7, 5, and 2 year old with us and there was absolutely nothing for them to do. The yard was small and overgrown with thorny vines/bushes. Inside the house was unsafe for small kids. There was a hole in the floor in the kitchen big enough for an adult man to put his hand through, the door to the basement could not be locked and the 2 year old was able to open it, there was doggy door cut into the basement door and the door to the stairs leading to the 2nd floor, the front door had no knob just deadbolts, in the backyard was a shed with no door that was full of loose yard tools, the shed also had outlet/switch boxes just dangling from wires, the kitchen cabinets were falling apart, the recessed lights in the kitchen were falling out of the ceiling, there was a utility closet the could not be locked full of loose tools that small children could easily access and reach. I could go on, but, needless to say we contacted the management company and requested a refund then had to scramble and find a different place to stay. It was the first rental property that I felt like my family was not safe at. Extremely disappointing

    Manager's Response:

Hi Peter, we’re sorry to hear your stay did not meet your expectations. We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following:
    - The listing does state the square footage of the home, but we are sorry if this caught you off guard. We encourage guests to thoroughly review the listing before booking, to ensure they find the perfect vacation home for their needs.
    - We apologize for any inconveniences during your stay, such as the hole in the kitchen floor, the basement door, the recessed lighting, and the door to the utility closet. These issues have all been addressed since your stay so future guests do not have the same experience.
    - While we apologize for the issues you encountered, we feel that the full refund was a fair resolution and are confident that this home will host many satisfied guests.
Thanks for your valuable feedback as we continue to improve!

House could have been cleaner. Toilet on first floor had a broken bolt on the flange which made the toilet very rocky. Only one lightbulb working in the fixture. Second floor storm door screen was pulled out of the track and the piston is missing. We did convey these issues to Michelle, who was our contact. She was glad we let her know and she would have them fixed but they weren't fixed while we were there.

I must agree with others who left a review that this property was staged so well, I felt as though the pictures must have been taken many years ago when the property was in better shape. We were disappointed when we walked in and compared the pictures to what actually was there. For example, the amenities included two "smart" TVs, but neither of them worked well.....losing volume, picture, or both. This would not have mattered except that the weather wasn't great. Not all bedrooms had AC so those rooms were quite hot even with fans. There were very FEW towels and those that were there were threadbare and old. One of the couches was flaking faux leather that our 2 year old granddaughter loved to pic at so we couldn't use the room. It was a lot of money to spend. HOWEVER......there's a bright side......Michelle, our contact person was extremely attentive to what we needed and even replaced the terrible couch. She contacted the cable company but the televisions didn't work. The home was in a great location though so we were never without great adventures, some within walking distance and others a short drive. As a family, we always have a great time together and the backyard was fenced in therefore great for the grand-kids and dogs. There was a second kitchen without a stove but the extra refrigerator was much appreciated. There were other small issues, (a rotted out threshold by the upstairs kitchen door, a hole in the wall in a bathroom, a rusted washing machine and a dryer that took hours to dry our towels....which we had to wash daily due to lack of towels we were told would be provided. If the owner spent a few dollars for some basic updates, this would be the perfect vacation home. We won't rent this property again most likely, unless it's upgraded a bit but we fell in love with the area so will most certainly look for lodgings there again.

  • Great location- but disappointing

    2/5

Falmouth is wonderful and the house is located less than a mile to the beach and close to downtown. We had a great time walking to the beach, Starbucks, Dairy Queen, etc. The house itself is bare bones and almost looks abandoned from the outside- including (I can't even make this up) a flickering front light like a haunted house. The pictures make the rooms look clean and almost updated, but in person all the old scratched couches have covers on them, coffee tables stained & chipped, walls were banged up and needed paint, and even had a broken toilet that had a dog bowl on top of it, as apparently it was already known that you had to fill the tank with water to be able to flush. Someone stopped by who said he would be back to mow the lawn and fix the (known) broken toilet, but never showed. We also arrived there to 3 pieces of toilet paper & no paper towels. Luckily Stop & Shop was close, but didn't think we should have needed to provide those basic items ourselves. The house isn't very open and was almost tough to hang out all together, as I had a party of 9 adults and 1 child. The backyard was nice, had room to play yard games and run around with my niece. Unfortunately, the deck is in need of replacement and we got numerous splinters. The kitchen is small and certainly not well equipped. We made the absolute best of it and laughed along the way, but were disappointed we paid $3,300 for what we got. I guess it's the chance you take when you book a home with no reviews, but thank god the location was awesome and got us beach bums right where we wanted to be. It's clear that the owner is not taking the money from renting and investing it into the house, as I said earlier, it is completely bare boned & probably met the minimum requirements to offer it as a rental property.
