Fun, historic home. Equipped with everything needed. Beautiful views of False River from the front porch.

It’s an old house. It’s not a 5 star hotel. My wife and I enjoyed the stay. We booked a last minute getaway for the weekend to relax. She likes old houses and when we looked at it, it was what she was looking for.

Having had a place on False River, I had driven by this place so many times. And, I’m a lover of old homes. I was so excited to get to stay here!
Well, it went down very fast!
We drove up the pothole mud driveway, no place to park that you didn’t step in mud. I had to go through the car wash when I got home. Then, it was very clear this once beautiful place needed major work. Too much to list. And, zero curb appeal or landscaping. We went up the stairs to a scene from Animal House with an interior couch that could have been in the movie. The floor boards were buckling up, very dangerous to walk on. We decided to have a glass of wine before our function in New Roads and went and got a towel to sit on . The interior hasn’t been updated in many many years.
Then out back there’s a junkyard.
It’s just felt very old and dirty. So, we decided not to stay and drive 1.5 hours home after our function.
I think if this homeowner wants to live like this, that’s one thing. But to rent out to guest at a very high price is unacceptable! I want my money back, it would have been nicer to stay at a state park cabin!
By the way, I have had an 1832 home. I know what it takes to keep it up!
Please don’t rent this out anymore!
I was so saddened to see this old house like this!
Hi Dana, thank you for your review. We’ve passed your feedback along to the homeowner, so they can continue to improve for future guests. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience.
Such a lovely, historic home with very interesting features. It looked just like the pictures, although the exterior may look a bit dingy - I think it is the pale green paint color. But once inside, it is a Victorian dream. So much character and charm. Do be advised that if using all 3 bedrooms, you should travel with good friends as you will need to go through the larger bedroom with the fireplace to get to the back bedroom - or enter from the outside directly into the back bedroom through the shutter doors (but you would need to unlock from the inside first). Also, the bathrooms are attached to two of the bedrooms, so again, you need to enter a bedroom to get to either bathroom. But aside from these small logistical concerns, the place is beautiful and harkens back to a romantic age. These features are just remnants of how houses were configured in days past. If you love history, as I do, you will love this place! Also, only a mile or so away are many shops and restaurants, including a large grocery store and an Walmart...And be sure to visit the Pointe Coupee Museum!
