Pet Friendly Cottage
5/5 Love this place! Cozy cottage had plenty of room, very clean and pet friendly. I will definitely recommend it to others and plan on staying there on our next trip to Carbondale if it is available.
3/5 This was my least favorite VRBO rental to date. Cabin has no heat except space heaters, and no air conditioning, just screens to manually put in the windows. The bed in the master bedroom has a broken bedframe, and also has worn out box springs, so the whole bed creaks with every movement. I didn't sleep hardly at all, and woke up with back pain, which effected my reason for staying there (a kayak fishing tournament). The bed in #2 is a futon, which my friend staying in there also complained about back pain from. The decor is creepy and odd with the antique high chairs and skateboards on the walls. There is no back door, which doesn't seem safe in the case of fire. The only TV in the house is a huge nice flat screen, but it's in the master bedroom, so the people staying in bedroom 2 can't watch TV. The couch in the living room is also a futon with a cover that pops off of it when you sit down. The owner Butch was friendly, and check in-out was easy. Parking was adequate, even for our trucks with boat trailers. All in all, id give this visit a 3 out of 10 for enjoyment of stay. I won't be renting this one a second time, or recommending it to anyone.

Close to the Shawnee Wine Trail
5/5 This cozy little cottage was clean & conveniently located to the Shawnee Wine Trail. It is also very close to the SIU campus. The owner lives right next door & is very helpful, but also gives you your privacy. There is a fire pit in the front. We brought our dogs with us & they were happy as well. I recommend for a couple or two who want to bring a dog along to hike. Nice place!

The bugs came out the second night
1/5 House is a bit of a disaster for over $200 a night. It has serious issues at many levels. Pos:Great location for outdoor adventuresOwner is a nice guyNeg:No central heat (2 elec. heaters provided)Bug infestation in kitchenNo TV (screen with movie options)Oven needs cleaning badly (Try to use it, smoke fill house, sets off alarms)Lumpy, impossible to sit couch.

Makanda getaway
5/5 Nice, tidy little place. Clean. Might suggest to have the heat on for arrivals: it was 47 degrees inside when we arrived. Also, the wall thermostat didn't work. We decided the space heaters must be the heat source. At night it was up to 66 and comfortable.
