  • Just an OK experience

    3/5

The Good: The balcony was cozy. Nice pool area. Decent wifi signal.

The Bad: The property is listed as Historic Kailua Village but it’s actually called Kona Islander Inn. This was very confusing at first because Kailua Village is right next door. We stayed 4 nights but was only able to park on premises one of the nights because not enough parking spaces. Had to park across the street the other three nights. Went to use the coffee maker and the filter was caked with dried up grounds and little bugs (very gross). Opened up one of the kitchen drawers and found a small dead cockroach-looking bug. There is no dedicated bathroom sink…you share the kitchen sink as a bathroom sink…weird. The bathroom exhaust fan needs to be seriously cleaned.

It’s the little things that matter and when added up, made for an OK experience. A little more attention to details and this would a good place to stay.

I blame myself for not looking closer at this property but take my advice and get a place worth your time. The selling point they keep advertising is you are steps away from the beach, while technically true the reality is the beach is tiny(maybe 10 yards in total) full of rocks, next to a busy street with constant traffic noise, and a hangout for vagrants. Zero communication with the host, couldnt access basic info. Listed as having air conditioning but it did not work. Listed as having a kitchenette but the sink is right next to the bathroom with a door that doesnt fully shut, gross. The bed, oh my god the bed must have been purchased 30 years ago it was stiff as a board. Pool wasnt worth anything unless you have kids that are learning to swim as its pretty pathetically sized for adults. If you want a place in kona thats near retaurants and shopping centers I gaurentee you there are better options available.

    Manager's Response:

Hi Steven, the right vacation home is everything, and we're disappointed if this wasn't the one for you. We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following:
    - We’re sorry if you felt caught off guard. We encourage guests to thoroughly review the listing before booking, to ensure they find the perfect vacation home for their needs. We wish you had reached out to us during your stay. We would've been more than happy to resolve your concerns and make your stay more comfortable.
    - Our listing clearly reflects the layout of the home. We pride ourselves on being transparent and accommodating to all guests and would have been more than happy to walk you through the exact layout of the home before you booked.
    - We use local, professional photographers to make sure that the listing photos correctly reflect the property, so the features you see on the listing are accurately advertised, and guests can decide before booking if the home meets their expectations.
    - We do include a map on our listing so that guests can see the approximate location of the home before booking. We also provide plenty of suggestions in the listing description of nearby attractions, but ultimately it’s up to the guest how they want to spend their time in the area.
    - We want all of our guests to rest easy. We’re sorry to hear that you weren’t comfortable during your stay. We do know that mattress preference is unique to each guest and while we try to accommodate all guests' comfort, mattress taste is subjective. We're sorry the mattress didn't meet your preferences.
    - While we do regret our home was not up to your expectations, we’re happy to share that no issues were reported by our most recent guests.
    - We truly go above and beyond for our guests and are confident that future guests will have a wonderful stay!
