  • Vacation on Kona island is a lots of hype and tons of wasted money.

    2/5

We rented a Studio in downtown Kailua Kona and the only good thing about it was the location. The rest: the floor was dirty (my wife bought a towel and washed the floor), there were insects on the kitchen counter most of the time, also insects in the bathroom and by the sliding door. My wife got bitten twice by bugs. I am not surprised why most apartments for sale are ground floor (you get insects & no privacy). The refrigerator had the freezer working hard (meaning making big noise) every night and we never used it (not even the ice or water), the next door studio had some electric system working 24 hours and making horrible noise (we identified as the door locking system but we were not sure), the studio above made lots of noise beyond 2:00am on Saturday like they were doing some remodeling/repair. Otherwise, the studio above was quite since there not that many people renting. The cook top worked fine for a while until it didn't and became moody (one side worked and the other didn't). So, we didn't complain to the symbolic reception which didn't care much except parking. If somebody tells you that buying an apartment on the island is a good investment then I can tell you is a big lie. We looked for many places to buy but when we made the ROI (return on investment) it is like buying a timeshare. Overall, there are not too many tourists and the food is very expensive. So, what are you going there for? Nice weather? There are a lots of deserted hotels (most likely bankrupt) because doing business on the island is very expensive and not profitable. In general, the property management fee is 25 - 35% and the HOA is between $500 - $1500 per month, plus the property taxes (add on top Hawaii state taxes) so one doesn't get any profit while the tourists get ripped off on high rent and all sorts of taxes. I travelled in Asia and all over the Europe but Hawaii is the worst when it comes to what you get for what you pay for a hotel.

  • Can’t say enough good things!

    5/5

We really enjoyed our stay at the condo. The space is small but perfect. We are breakfast on the patio every morning. We loved the water sports in the cabinet on the patio. There are coolers and chairs to use at the beaches as well. The place had everything that we needed. The front counter staff were very helpful. We felt safe the whole time on the property. The location is perfect for walking to the shops, restaurants and even Walmart. A taxi or Uber was needed to get from the airport but the Uber was only 21.00 so that was worth it. There was an ice dispenser on the fridge which was great for drinks. The pool was great as well. No Cons only Pros!!!

  • Great little condo

    5/5

Very close to busy Ali'i Drive so shops, restaurants and beautiful sunsets are just steps away. But this condo is far enough from the street to be quiet at night. Victoria at the front desk is so sweet and made us feel comfortable and at home from the moment we checked it! Parking was challenging and the A/C was noisy but we spent more time exploring beaches than in the condo so it really didn't matter. Nice grounds and a relaxing place to spend mornings and evenings.

It was very easy to rent this property. Ellen emailed a list of things we needed to know and was precise with her instructions. This was a cozy home for our stay. It was well supplied.
