  • No Gas to Grill

    4/5

I didn't see the fine print that the kayaks are not available until April. I requested that they allow us to use them, but no go. I did get a text message from the owner, but no kayaks.

We arrived on a rainy evening. The road to the house was about as bad as all the other reviews. GPS only gets you so far. There was a sign on a tree at a fork in the road which gave us some confidence. The dirt/gravel road was a bit soft with the rain and it gave us pause. You have about a half-mile still to go when the GPS quits. We kept driving the narrow road. There is only room for one car with either a downslope or trees to stop the fall. Eventually, we came to the house on the river. Very secluded, private, and peaceful.

It was March Madness time, so one of the first things I focused on after unloading was to check out the main TV. I struggled for quite some time before I finally found the YouTube app worked. Whew! I was trying everything. Couldn't download other apps. Couldn't cast from my phone.

Then it was time to grill burgers for dinner. Nope, the grill wouldn't get over 200 degrees. We finally gave up on grilling and took the burgers inside to fry on the stove.

Of course, this set off the very loud smoke alarms which would not turn off. Toni, our contact never answered the phone on numerous attempts. She finally did answer when the alarm was blaring. She told us to unplug or take out the battery of the alarm, but it was so high up on the wall, there was no way to reach it. She said she would come to the house the next day to fix the grill. She never showed up and did not answer the phone again.

We wanted to grill hot dogs for lunch the next day, so I went to Walmart and exchanged the propane tank. The grill did get a little hotter, but still not perfect. I'm sure the regulator on the grill is shot. After lunch, my son-in-law could smell gas leaking. This is an explosion waiting to happen. The owner did give me a credit of $50 for my troubles, but we would have preferred the burgers.

The house in general was nice. The master bathroom had a spa tub and a large shower. The kitchen was adequate with a nice island to gather around. The outside decks were good as they were covered. Part of the deck was screened. We used the 2-car garage for our cars. We enjoyed the firepit as well.

At $395/night with all of the fees, its a bit pricey, but it can sleep 10 people. We celebrated my wife's birthday. She liked the house.

  • Peaceful Oasis

    5/5

We thoroughly enjoyed the coziness of this property! The kitchen was absolutely beautiful and great for gathering! We could not have found a better place. The only thing we were a bit surprised about was the narrow and dangerous road to the house but it was well worth it once we got to the house!

  • Not what I expected

    3/5

Not what we expected. No firewood available as is shown in the picture, fireplace was difficult to use, too hot in the master bedroom when the heat was on so not very well distributed, coffee grounds left in the coffee pot by cleaners, a mass of garbage left in the garage and per the cleaner, it was from the prior tenants and just was not removed, porches were not clean, had lots of leaves and debris all around. I was disappointed considering this was a holiday trip for my family and cost me over $700/nite when all the fees were calculated. WE were also very unprepared for the dangerous left hand turn on to the access road from Hwy 52. We were somewhat delayed and it was raining so it was already dark when we arrived. Very Scary and no marker or indicator at the turn to show it and how tight the turn was. I almost drove over the decline. I won't book this expensive venue again.

    Manager's Response:

Hi Carolynn, your review is greatly appreciated, and we're thankful for your time sharing your experience. Upon reviewing your feedback, we've connected with the homeowner, who wanted to address a few points:
    - Thank you for choosing to stay in our Dahlonega, Georgia home and leaving a review, as guest feedback is vitally important to us and the success of our vacation rental business.
    - I regret any confusion about the firewood, and while it's not included, I provide detailed instructions for the wooden stove insert fireplace. I wish you had reached out with any questions.
    - I'm sorry about the issues with the master bedroom temperature. Your feedback is valuable, and I'll explore ways to improve the heat distribution for future guests.
    - Apologies for the inconvenience with the trash and cleanliness issues. Unfortunately, our trash collection company unexpectedly quit, and I hadn't arranged an alternative at the time of your booking. I've discussed this with our cleaning crew, and we're implementing measures to prevent a recurrence.
    - Regarding the road access, I acknowledge that the sharp corner requires heightened attention, especially in adverse weather conditions. I'm actively exploring ways to enhance the information and assistance we provide to guests about this turn for a safer and more comfortable experience.

I genuinely regret that your holiday trip fell short of expectations. I'm committed to making the necessary improvements to enhance the overall guest experience.
