• Uncomfortable shared entry, open to basement occupants

  As others have mentioned, the house is wonderfully clean and well stocked. The hostess is very communicative. Had we known that our part of the house cannot be secured from the basement occupants, we would have made different arrangements. The occupants in the basement enter the home through a door from the garage leading to a hallway which gives them two options: enter their secured basement door or enter into the kitchen of the rental space. There is only a curtain separating the kitchen in the rental space from them. Hence, if you’re in the kitchen or living room, they pass through on the other side of this curtain. The lack of a wall or securable door for the rental space is a safety and privacy concern and should be more clearly disclosed in the listing, as the basement occupants can easily gain access to the rented living space. It felt uncomfortable to us, in spite of the amiable hostess.

  Hi Josephina, we want all our guests to feel completely comfortable and secure during their stay, so we appreciate you sharing your concerns. We followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following:
  - I, the homeowner live on-site in the basement apartment and only pass through the shared hallway to access the garage, never beyond the curtain unless invited or in case of an emergency.
  - We've never received this complaint before, but for added privacy, each bedroom is equipped with door locks, and actively working on installing a sliding door between the rental space and the walkway to the garage/laundry area. I'm awaiting contractor availability to complete the project.
  The homeowner sincerely values your privacy and safety and is committed to making sure all guests feel comfortable. Thank you for providing such helpful feedback!
