The Geo-dome is a truly unique and interesting place to stay. The location is, as advertised, off the grid so some self sufficiency is required. Bring food and flashlights. It is bright and spacious inside and has plenty of supplies in the kitchen and bath. The full size loft bed is the largest in the unit and is comfortable. The foldout couch beds are really only good for one person. The deck is delightful and night time stargazing is spectacular, bring binoculars or a telescope. The grounds had some trash around the entrance, wood collecting in progress and are not conducive to outdoor activities at the cabin. The generator runs on gasoline and you're asked to replenish what you use for lighting and Starlink internet. The nearest gas station is about 25 minutes away so plan this task during a daytime outing. The supplied gas can is 2 gallons which is a bit small if staying more than 2 nights as the generator has a 5 gallon tank. Also, the generator must be shut down at night and is about 100' from the cabin so plan on that. Based upon the generator fuel requirements and hauling out our own trash, we feel the pricing should reflect that or means set up to accommodate these tasks. Overall, the uniqueness of the building and nighttime viewing outweigh the inconveniences, for the most part.

    Manager's Response:

From the owner: "Thank you for your thoughtful review and for appreciating the unique, off-the-grid experience of the Geo-dome. We’re glad you enjoyed the bright, spacious layout and stargazing from the deck. To clarify, the generator is filled with 5 gallons of gas before each stay, and we also provide an additional gas can for convenience. We’ve made a few updates to make this process even simpler for future guests. The hoses and wood near the generator area are part of our seasonal maintenance to keep the property ready for mountain conditions, but we’ve tidied the area for a cleaner look. We appreciate your feedback and are happy you found the experience rewarding overall."

  • Sierra Storytelling Fun

    5/5

The night sky from the deck of the geodesic dome was absolutely spectacular, as were the views. The home was clean, thoughtfully appointed and was situated on an exceptional property. It was also a short drive from the Sierra Storytelling Festival, which made it even better. The only shortcoming is that there was only one full bed and the two others were a futon and a sofa bed. A twin bed in the loft would be a lovely addition. For 4 adults, it works fine.

We enjoyed the location. Use of generator was straightforward. Appreciated the firewood provided. Would've been nice to have a few more towels. Lovely building and location.
