  While we enjoyed the beautiful mountain views, our stay was less than ideal. The home is situated along the mountainside which makes traveling there (even in the summer time) a bit difficult. When we entered the home, we noticed a strong musty smell coming from the home. We opened windows to allow fresh air to circulate but the smell remained throughout our stay. It may have been because of the dingy carpet throughout the entire cabin; including in the master bathroom as well. Rugs on top of carpet in the bathroom- can you imagine! Although we paid a hefty cleaning fee (almost 1/3 of the total price), the home was NOT clean. Spider webs and dust were found throughout the home- I took pictures. There was even toothpaste and stains from the previous renter on the bathroom mirrors and floors. Even the dishes had to be washed BEFORE we used them. Cleaning or even putting away the dishes is NOT included in the large cleaning fee we paid. We had to wash and put away our dishes before leaving - which is probably why the dishes were dirty when we arrived. If every guest is expected to clean and put away dishes, you can guess how many actually do a good job cleaning the dishes before you use them. Not a big deal if I didn't pay a large cleaning fee. So I had to clean when I arrived and then again before we left. Would be nice for management to check before the arrival of guests. We even brought our own blankets and sheets but still had to strip the bed before leaving. Lastly, although it is advertised with no A/C, it was more than 100 degrees during our stay so we brought our own fans. They were kind enough to provide a portal A/C unit - which is why I gave more than 1 star. While it was good to have, it was not effective at all. The lowest we could get the temperature in the home was 83 degrees...at night. And that was ONLY if we continued to fill the unit with ice and water every couple of hours; even at night - it is a small unit so could not cool more than one room. Imagine having to turn off the unit to fill it up; every couple of hours and then turn it back on and wait for it to cool down the air; while you're trying to sleep. When we brought this issue to the property management attention, he suggested we go to a local beach to cool off. After spending so much money on this rental, we ended up spending most of the time outdoors to stay cool and avoid the weird odor in the home. I would not recommend booking this rental.

  The homeowners were surprised to read your review, as they are accustomed to providing 5-star experiences, and would like to clarify the following:
  -The carpets were recently cleaned, and we have not encountered an odor issue before. The scent might have been from the new pine-scented Glade air fresheners placed the day before your arrival. We will investigate this further.
  -We were surprised to hear about the cleanliness concerns, as the house was thoroughly deep-cleaned the day before your arrival.
  -The dishes were put away directly from the dishwasher before your arrival.
  -Decor taste is subjective, and we have never received any complaints about the rugs in the past.
  -We acknowledge the challenge of the recent heatwave and the limitations of the portable A/C unit. This type of heat is rare, and the listing clearly states that A/C is not included. We are glad we were able to promptly provide the portable cooling unit. Given the extreme temperatures, we suggested the nearby lake beach as a refreshing way to stay cool.
  We truly go above and beyond for our guests, with 44 out of 46 reviews being five-star, and are confident that future guests will have excellent stays!

  My family had an excellent stay at Ken’s cabin. The property was very clean and had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend staying here.

• Three senior sisters

  Beautiful cabin very hard to find. Parking scant 1 spot on road. Downstairs shower steady drip. Home decor is well appointed only complaint is the 17 stairs straight down to enter. I slept on couch couldn’t get up spiral stairs because I’m 73 to hard..we did laundry for twin bed and towels. Great views. Recommend getting to location before dark.
