• Spacious but Neglected Lake House with Multiple Issues

  The lake house we rented on Vrbo was spacious, and we appreciated the bird seed box that attracted birds to the porch. However, we encountered several issues during our stay. The seams of the linoleum floor were damaged, making it uncomfortable to walk on without shoes. The upstairs loft had a beam and loft ceiling fan covered in spider webs, along with a spider. The closets, blinds, ceiling fans and tables in the bedrooms were dusty, causing my family to sneeze. The downstairs porch was also covered in spider webs, making it difficult to stand there or play ping pong. The view of the lake is disrupted by the in maintained trees and brush. There was no hose available to clean off the kayaks or the fire pit chairs, both of which were dirty and dusty. At the top of the metal stairs leading to the loft, five metal bolts on the first step scratched my son’s heel. We had to hang a trash bag midway down the spiral staircase to prevent anyone from hitting their head on it. Additionally, the pillow shams in the basement bedroom had long white hair stuck to them, raising concerns about cleanliness. Most of the mattresses were uncomfortable, except for the queen bed on the main floor. The main floor bathroom lacked counter space and could use a small rectangular table. Finally, the lake access had no dock, although there appeared to have been one previously.   -The feedback provided does not align with our established record of guest satisfaction. Over the past two years, we have consistently maintained ratings of four stars or higher, as demonstrated by numerous positive reviews.
  -In this particular case, the guest initially reached out via text three days before their arrival, indicating they hadn’t noticed our property’s “no pets” policy and requesting to bring their two dogs, identified as emotional support animals. We responded promptly, reiterating our no-pets policy and respectfully declining their request.
  -On the day of check-in, the guest sent us a screenshot from a different listing labeled “pet-friendly” for a cabin on Lake Ludwig, mistakenly assuming it was ours. We clarified that it was not associated with our property. At that point, the guest offered to pay a surcharge to bring the dogs, which prompted us to contact Evolve, our listing partner, for guidance. Evolve communicated directly with the guest to reinforce that, per our property rules, pets would not be permitted.
  -Additionally, we hold our property to the highest standards of cleanliness and readiness. Our home is professionally serviced after each guest stay, ensuring that it is thoroughly cleaned, prepared, and inspected for the comfort and enjoyment of all future guests.
  -We hope this clarifies the matter and reaffirms our commitment to providing a well-maintained, welcoming space for each guest.
