We had a great time and we all enjoyed the homes. We had 11 men and boys and rented all 3 properties together. There are lots of twin beds and many (10) are in bunkbed configurations so be aware. If we had couples then 16 would be possible--otherwise I think 14 would be the max--if you did not sleep on the sofas.
It was 45 minutes from downtown and the area was quiet.
Lots of spices in the kitchen and there are 2 large freezers in the garage that were amazing for freezing our fish. We had fun with the fire pit cooking S'mores and we used the charcoal grill for our burgers and it was better than the gas grill.
We did bring our own box fan--it gets hot in the Burl lodge above the garage if you don't.
We did not catch a single fish off the deck--then again we did not catch many in rivers elsewhere so that was probably more of an "us" issue. I would recommend you take a charter trip or two--we had the most success fishing with locals taking us out.
Fred Meyer is AMAZING--think Walmart size and variety.
Positives:
1) having space to spread out
2) beautiful river right outside door
3) home has many things you might need (shampoo, conditioner, spices, laundry detergent) and many other random things in garage that are useful
4) key code on doors was very convenient
5) having two sets of washer/dryers was amazing
Negatives:
1) very far from town, with roadwork that makes trip even longer - must add an hour to every outing (just to get to Soldotna)
2) river was closed for fishing
3) decor/finishes/towels/bedding/ kitchen items should all be much nicer at this price point
4) bathrooms are tiny and not enough of them
Late in the season, but the property was beautiful and comfortable for a large family. The river was particularly nice with the fish, eagles, and even a wayward seal swam by one day!
