  • Not bad but not great

My friend and I stayed in this cabin on our recent trip to Seward - we booked too late to find a decent, affordable hotel in town so decided to take this route instead. It was nice to be a bit off the beaten path, in the woods amidst a few other cabins on the property. The cabin was right on the river and there were tons of salmon swimming along (and dying...causing somewhat of an odor outside...apparently this is the time of year salmon swim upstream and where their lives come to an end). Another nice feature was the raspberry bush outside - plenty to pick and put on our morning yogurt. Very nice! The place was clean and with the murphy bed along with the queen bed in the unit, we both had our own sleeping space. The beds were comfortable. Despite some of the positives, as someone who owns a vacation rental unit, I was somewhat dissappointed as well. The place was clean - but lacking in a few ways. I would have expected the kitchen to be a bit better stocked with supplies - there is no microwave, as an example, which is an inexpensive investment as a property owner to make the lives of your guests easier. Kitchen supplies were very random - some of this, none of that, too much of this other thing. The toilet was not properly attached to the floor so that every time you made a visit, it rocked forward a bit. And the water was hard to control - it often came out SUPER HOT from the bathroom and kitchen sink (no issues with the shower, however, which had nice pressure to it). The owners ask you to remove your shoes in the unit - I would suggest some cozy area rugs in the unit if the owners want that behavior, since the floor is made of cement. There is not a lot of storage place for your clothes, with the exception of a small space in the bathroom with some hangers. Finally, the place is not that close to town. It was at least three miles in - and with all the hking and walking we were doing, that was the last way we wanted to spend our energy. If you are taking the train or bus in, I would suggest staying at hte Windsong Lodge. The bus drops off, and picks up, at this hotel and they have a great shuttle service as well. We actually walked to the Windsong a few times (10 minutes) and they allowed us to take advantage! There are cabs in Seward but aren't always easy to come by - the best services we found were Red's and Seward Taxi. With a few small improvements, this could be a five-star location! I encourage the owners to put a bit more into this unit to make it more comfortable for their guests.

The toilet needs to be bolted to the floor. Possible ceiling fan to circulate air. Other than that it was good.

  • Very bad

    1/5

We stayed at the cabin for 4 nights, it was terrible. First off, there were only two beds which had four pillows for a family of 4, the covers were very thin. There were very limited kitchen supplies, no oven mitts for the oven and not enough spoons in the cabin the thermostat was broken and the toilet wasn’t even attached to the floor, the cabin also had a unbearably gross odor. The cabinets were disgusting. While staying there was a tsunami evacuation, the host didn’t even contact us to ensure everything is okay. The garbage bins outside were overflowing and we couldn’t even throw our trash out. I definitely don’t recommend staying at misty cabins, the prices were way too high for the quality of our stay.

  • Cabin on a creek

    4/5

This is a nice cabin in a good location, but it needs to be cleaned thoroughly. The beds were fine, linens were clean and there were plenty of towels. The creek behind the cabin is beautiful, but the surrounding grounds could use some clean up. The property is advertised as having washer and dryer but it must be in a different location as there is not a w/d in the cabin. Overall, a good experience, and we really enjoyed Seward.

the bad- there was no mention that it's named misty's cabins so looking for it was a little confusing. Parking is limited especially for our longer rental camper van. Also not sure where to park but we were fortunate we encountered a staff on the grounds (would be nice if the place had a parking sign).

We were in cabin 2 and there's no hairdryer, no MICROWAVE, the toilet rocks when you sit on it (unhinged or something), the sinks' faucets were temperamental when it came to hot and cold (one night i spent 15mins moving the faucet left and right and water remained boiling hot the entire time), and there is only a heater control and no other air source. We would open the door ajar for an hour or so before sleep to cool down the unit (wish there was even a small fan).

The good- the cabin is cozy, internet is fast enough, the bathroom is spacious with soap, shampoo and hangers and plenty of towels. (faded old, brown towels though lol). Tv worked well. bed and pillows are soft and comfortable, the kitchen is well equiped with pans, cups and plates and an electric range that was easy to use. The back does have access to a pretty creek and the cabin has a picnic table that can seat 6 people side by side if at max capacity. the view was so pretty that we had a few meals outside. It is also closer to exit glacier but only 5-10mins to downtown seward where the kenai park visitor center is located as well as the alaska sealife center is. safeway is also not too far. The path to the house isnt paved though, fyi, but is otherwise an easy drive.
