Perfect location out of town, but convenient to travel back in. Excellent accommodation for a couple.

    Several issues with the place.

It smells strongly of smoke. The owner said the fireplace was just serviced but smoke still comes into the room when using the fireplace. This is a problem because it's the main heat source. Also you have to go to Sedona to buy the wood because it is not included.

The roof leaked enough that we had to put a bucket out. AND it leaked onto an electric heater. Potentially very dangerous.

LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST. There was a warning in the "about this home" book provided by the owner not to leave any food out because there have been problems with wildlife. We were very careful but on the last night we were there we were upstairs in bed and heard some clattering downstairs. My husband went down and saw a RAT on the counter yes A RAT. We were packed and out the door in 15 minutes. YUCK. It was literally a nightmare.

    Manager's Response:

Hi Shari, thanks for leaving your review. The homeowner would like to share the following:

I am very sorry to hear about your experience at our cabin.  It definitely is a historic property in a remote location, which occasionally comes with its challenges.  We have never had or heard of any issue with smoke coming in the room when using the fireplace, and as long as the flue had not been closed, that should not have happened. The fireplace is the main heat source, along with the three provided space heaters for the downstairs area, and the baseboard heater is the primary heating source in the bedroom upstairs.  Guests at our cabin are provided with one large bundle of wood per stay, and we would love to have unlimited firewood for everyone but, unfortunately, do not have the resources for that.

Thank you for alerting us to the roof situation, as it enabled us to get a professional out quickly to assess it and help us to find solutions.  Also, we contacted our pest control company immediately, thanks to your feedback.

We love our cabin in the woods.  From taking in the spectacular views to cozying up by the fire, we find it to be a relaxing getaway.  It sounds like that was not your experience, and for that, we apologize.  We sincerely hope that you were able to cherish some of the positives that our property has to offer. Thank you for your stay.

  • Perfect little cottage/cabin.

Great location and a great way to spend our anniversary. Only complaint I have is it’s a little eerie to sit downstairs by the fire in the evening and not have any window coverings downstairs. Makes you feel like you’re being watched.

  • Fantastic Sedona getaway tucked away in Oak Creek Canyon

    5/5

This was the perfect spot for my wife and I during our stay in the Sedona area. It was close enough to red rock hikes, day trips to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon, but it was out of the chaos that is central Sedona during the high season. Plus the drive in an out of Sedona through Oak Creek Canyon offers stunning views. The cabin is quaint with a lot of charm and is the perfect size for two people. My only complaint is that the floor mat in the kitchen did not stick to the floor and was better off not being there. Certainly not worth knocking a start over, this place was amazing!

  • Perfect Cabin in the Canyon!

    5/5

Wow - we cannot say enough about how beautiful and perfectly appointed every detail in this cabin is! It's beautiful; it's cozy; it's situated in the perfect spot between Sedona and Flagstaff. There are skylights in the ceiling to allow the daylight in and to give you a peek into the night sky. The front patio faces the mountains and you can watch the sun sink behind it. The host, Meghan, was incredibly responsive to all of our questions. Water was hot when it needed to be; water is good to drink (we are picky about that); the bed was comfy; plenty of cooking utensils, eating utensils, dishes/plates/drinking glasses, cooking ware and linens. We also looked for a place that had a stove/oven and microwave, so that was also a bonus since we cooked in. The Kuerig was a little tricky (had to put water in, warm it, restart it, then was able to brew the coffee - important to us coffee addicts!).

What you may want to know: correct - there is no WiFi or Cell Service (for our particular phone service); if you need anything, the folks next door at Don Hoel's Market have dry goods, freshly brewed coffee, and firewood. The cabin is NOT in Don Hoel's Cabins (we made that mistake upon our arrival) but just north of it (the drive is directly next door so look for the shingle that says 9452. It's tucked away which is great because 89A can get busy during certain times of the day/year. ) Some may need to know that the fireplace does not have a gas starter, so be sure you can build a fire (some of us city folks are spoiled with gas starters, but we had no problem starting one with kindling gathered from the property). Bring matches or a lighter because we didn't see one but were able to procure a book of matches from Don Hoel market. That's it!

We loved, loved, loved it! And we definitely would return! Thank you Meghan for a wonderful experience!
