• Presidential Railcar overnight stay

  We were mostly satisfied with our stay in the Presidential railcar located at the Doolittle Station in Dubois Pennsylvania. It was nostalgic and a new experience from staying in chain motels. The dining room is very pretty and the Presidential bedroom was comfortable. We are elderly and large sized physically, so the very narrow hall leading to the bedrooms was difficult for us, but we managed. The bathroom, luckily, isn't original and access was easy to it and fairly spacious. Only decaf coffee was there, which we don't drink decaf, but tea was also available and was fine for us. It was time consuming to find the light switches because some were behind doors or halfway up a wall, but they are marked with small labels once you find them, lol. We never did find the light switch for the overhead dining room light, so we couldn't play the board games they supplied and no TV of course. There isn't enough outlets in any of the rooms if you all have cell phones, tablets, etc., to charge. My husband had to sleep in a different room without me because he uses a by-pap machine to breathe due to sleep apnea. The owners do need to provide more detailed instructions for the lights, number of outlets, and the keyless entry pad, especially for older people who aren't familiar with this type of motel. The guest contact they gave me never responded to my emails for help, so it is a good thing that we were able to finally figure out the small issues we had. The Doolittle Station itself will be great once the new management gets it all operational. We were able to see the automated dinosaur section in operation because we stopped there the weekend before our actual overnight stay just to familiarize ourselves with the area. Only the miniature putt putt was open though during the weekday that we stayed overnight and we're too old to do that anymore. The price of the one night stay cost more than it's worth to me since the attractions and restaurants weren't open , but, even with the small disappointments, we enjoyed our stay in the Presidential Railcar just for the history and nostalgic feeling.

• Poor timing for the amenities

  We really loved staying in the presidential car, you can tell just how much care and work has gone into the life of this car, the attached bathroom was so beautiful. Truly an amazing job.

  Our pain point was the amenities on site, our plan was to get in and stay at the park all day. But the restaurant was closed, the mini golf was a bit sad and hard to walk, we gave up before the 9th hole. The ice-cream store was musty and the food options were disappointing. It was a bit frustrating that they couldn't tell us anything about the property.

  We really wanted this to be a destination, but we had to pack back into the car for dinner. It would have been nice to get a note that all the amenities were closed so we could have planned better.

  All in all and amazing experience and could have been the bees knees, really worth the stay!

  My 2 daughters and I spent the night in the Presidential train car. Thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations, the historical items throughout and especially enjoyed our meal at the Angry Goat Restaurant. The staff was friendly and attentive and the food

  The manager of the train station, Matthew, added to out experience by adding historical information we did not previously know. He was friendly and extremely helpful during our stay.

  Staying in the Presidential Suite was amazing. For me it's the history and beauty of craftsmanship. For the kids it's the bunk beds and porter bells. This was our second year coming to celebrate our Paislee's birthday. The nostalgia of the train car, and then add in mini golf and a huge collection of animatronic dinosaurs and it's a wonderful weekend. Not to mention how they helped us with celebrating our girl. They made her 10th birthday very memorable.

  It was a surprise for my husbands birthday. He loved it and said the icing on the cake was the dinosaurs. I wish everything thing would have been open. They don't tell you when making reservations that everything on property is closed. They should tell you that. He enjoyed it.
