  • Great house! Great view!

We loved the large window in the family room! It gave us a wonderful view of the river. The house had everything we needed for our stay. Loved how all of the bedrooms had a water view as well!

  • Nice quaint beautiful setting on the water

We were only here for two nights. The cottage was well stocked with extras; for instance, paper plates, sugar, salt, pepper, toilet paper and soap!we never figured out how to work the TV. Guess there was no cable? only an Amazon Prime remote besides the TV remote Basic channels did not work on any HDMI. So we never got the news...but never bothered with the TVs anymore after that first day. Enjoyed the Fire Pit!!.

  • Peaceful stay

We were looking for a serene and quiet weekend away, and this house delivered! Located on a small river close to the Bay, it is tucked away in a great neighborhood that is close enough to amenities (20 minutes) but far enough away where we felt completely checked out from the real world! The house was perfectly suitable for our family (2 kids, aged 5 & 6) plus our Boston Terrier (who loved the little side porch access). There were so many thoughtful touches that we appreciated, from the amazing selection of classic books in each room to read to the HUGE amount of awesome board games. Thank you for sharing your home with us, we will be back!

  • Perfect fall getaway - just note the internet is via satellite

First things first, this is a 5* location that is only reduced to 4* because of internet performance. We were working from vacation/virtual school so internet was important; the satellite service was a little erratic, but we got by just about. Ignoring that, if you are looking for a vacation where internet doesn't matter (and it shouldn't in this place with so much to do), then look no further. You can fill your day with crabbing (pots provided), fishing (lots of rods/tackle in the shed; bait shop 5 min drive), boating (small john boat with 5hp motor the owners kindly let us use), kayaking (single and multi-person), camping (tents in garden shed!), gathering round the fire pit, biking on the quiet road, sitting in the swing, chipping golf balls on the lawn, playing frisbee. Nearby (10 mins) is Vir Beach, which is ideal for a paddle and play. For a young family (7-year old, 6-month old) in the mild fall weather, we couldn't ask for more.

On the inside of the house, everything is per description with a spacious feel on the inside and nice touches throughout. The view from the lounge is magnificent, especially on a clear sunrise/sunset. The furnishings, furniture and kitchen equipment all feel modern, but nicely minimalist so it feels like a vacation property. Some basic ingredients provided too, along with coffee, tea etc. The collection of books is awesome, so many American classics and more. The art in the property is delightful - we suspected one of the owners might have been an artist. The study is quaint and perfect for homeschool; lots of board games and a neat electric piano/child's guitar.

A couple of points for those bringing babies - there is no pack-and-play; consider blackout blinds as the blinds are very thin; and there is no highchair, it's a Bumbo seat.

Food Lion 20 mins away is well-stocked and the nearby seafood deli (10 mins west towards Food Lion) is worth a visit. We didn't venture much further, but plenty more in the welcome notes from the owner.

Overall a charming, well-equipped property that it is very quick to feel comfortable in. We hope to be back soon.
