This place was beautiful, well appointed and just what we were looking for to get away for a few days. Stan is so accommodating and his beautiful dogs are so well behaved. We look forward to staying here again in the future.

  • Thumbs Up!

    5/5

Stan was quick to reach out with his contact info to make sure that if we needed anything to let him know! The Shotwell House was nice and clean. Cozy covered porch to sit on and watch the sun come up or the deer, birds and other wildlife. 30ish minutes to Cville, but worth the drive.

  • Fantastic Weekend!

    5/5

We took our teen son and two large dogs. This country farmhouse is ADORABLE! Perfectly enough without being over the top. Everything we needed was at our fingertips, and the house was immaculately clean. The owner, Stan, even had special touches like a Chuck-It stick for our dogs and a wine chiller. There’s a huge amount of property suitable for walking and exploring, and our dogs loved the freedom of running everywhere. The beds were really comfortable and the little porch outside had a grill and wonderful seating area so we could enjoy the deer and hummingbirds that were everywhere. If you’re looking for a quiet place to relax with family and nature, this is it!

  • House in the country, meadows views, peaceful

    5/5

We chose this historic property based on the proximity to Shenandoah National Park for hiking, about 30 minutes away. Owner Stan lives on property, and was friendly, welcoming, eager to assist but also respected our privacy. The house is updated, with a large bedroom, queen bed, in the upstairs space, and a smaller bedroom downstairs. We really enjoyed the porch, turning the two chairs to face the meadow view and sunrise. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, glasses, etc, and Stan even includes paper products. If you wish to cook, oil, flour, sugar and a few spices are in the cabinets. We ate in Stanardsville at The Lafayette, and drove 20 minutes to restaurants in Charlottesville. An added bonus was the outdoor shower, with hot and cold running water. Wildlife is abundant and the hummingbird feeder kept the hummingbirds active nearby. We were not disappointed!
