  • Southtown getaway

What an adorable house. We loved staying here. The kitchen was well equipped for the few small meals we made. The back deck and front porch were really great breakfasts and cocktails. The neighborhood is fun, walkable and full of lovely historic homes. It’s a great spot that we recommend.

  • Cute…but Lots of Pros + Cons

Let me start by saying we always get VRBO rentals for out of town weekends vs hotel rooms, so I have seen+ stayed in MANY. This house was in an ideal location for the Run the Alamo half marathon we came to town for, which was the reason I decided on it. It’s super close (like 8 min walk) from the huge Hemisfair Park +that was awesome for our children. The house is cute and looks as advertised on the VRBO page however there are a LOT of things the owner could do better or choose to provide that would go a long way to making guests more comfortable. As many other reviews say, if you’re driving a truck it is extremely difficult (like 4 point reverse) to get a large vehicle backed into the tiny driveway. It’s a small lot, I completely get it that there’s not much you can do about it + I knew that initially. Just FYI. There was no dish soap, only dishwasher pods. So if you needed to just rinse your coffee cup or your own bottles you brought etc, you couldn’t. And the only dish scrubber was gross+ brown instead of yellow. At least put out a new one now + then. The main bedroom only had a full size bed. For some reason I thought it was a queen, but it was tiny + my husband I both didn’t sleep very well. However, there is an awesome mattress topper and very good pillows so it is comfy. Just a note for the owner, the main room also has a section of the wood floor boards in the center of the doorway that has a splintered section raised up in the middle and my toddler hung his little toe under it. Ouch. The other room was nice for the children as there are twin beds but No cover over the front door windows and I had to turn the porch light off so that they could sleep, which wasn’t ideal since we were in a strange neighborhood + would rather have left it on. In the bathroom there is a screw in the wall where apparently a hand towel holder USED to be, but is no longer. Also the shower curtain liner was yucky. They’re like $5 at the dollar store + this one had at least 3-4” of that red shower algae at the bottom of it. Aside from all of that, we had a nice stay. It was close to the area we needed to be at, and there were lots of cute restaurants + bars within walking distance + you can see The Tower of the Americas right out the back door which is pretty. Both porches were cute + my boys loved the hammock. Owner was easy to get in touch with, as I couldn’t find the large outside trash can + had to contact him. Enjoyed it but probably wouldn’t rent again.

  • Cute place in a great location

Clean, comfortable, and in a great neighborhood for access to sights and food. Great restaurants in the neighborhood. Close to the Riverwalk. We spent the whole week without a car, and had no problems.

  • Perfect location

The small house was just the right size and layout for the 4 of us, and the twin beds in bedroom 2 meant less griping from my 2 tweenagers. Everything was clean and presentable and for the most part well stocked. The only downside about the place is the parking, as many others have reviewed. It’s not the space that’s bad, it’s that it’s hard to swing into the space if anyone is parked across the alley, as they were while we were there.

Like I said- great space! You can tell the owners and caretakers take great pride in the place, which meant we were able to really enjoy our stay and not worry about anything.
